From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

He has a website at OU, but there is nothing on it. I don't know if there ever was, of if they've taken it down since last night.

I've been monitoring this thread since it broke last night-- so I have read almost every post. I am coming to one of two conclusions: Either this event did not happen the way we are thinking it happened, or there is a concerted effort to keep a lid on this story.

Niether conclusion is particularly satisfying, however. If this was not an act of terrorism, as I think most of us here believe it was, then the even defies logic or explanation. Who commits suicde outside a sporting even where 84,000 people are in attendance?

And yet the conspiracy aspect does not wash either with me-- how is it possible to keep something like this under wraps? Only a completely pliable and willing press could explain that. I mean, this is an INTERESTING story. Granted only one person died in this event, but the implications and possibilities are ENORMOUS.

Perhaps the press is waiting to see who moves on it first-- like a game of chicken. No one wants to be the first to stick their neck out first and posit the idea that this might have been a failed suicide bomber attempt.

But then, that never stopped the crazy-ass press from reported 10,000 dead in NO after Katrina.

I admit complete and total ignorance-- and my ignorance is completely frustrating.

Unfortunately, the facts may not matter. This can and will be spun like dirty sheets on washday. Everyone will make up his or her mind then fit the facts to the theory.

The water is so muddied now we may never know the truth.

(Sorry, some uncharacteristic pessimism. My Phils are out of the playoffs.)

Aha!

Ok, so you and Mr. Hr are in Lubbock..

GO RED RAIDERS!

I lived there once upon a time - even went to Monterey Sr. High - "Once a Plainsman, Always a Champeon!"

The problem with the Lefties and the establishment media they cling to, is that they cannot conceive of anything culturally meaningful, or of consequence to their vapid lives happening outside of NY, L.A., Chicago, etc..

That would work except they searched quite a few apartments there from what was reported. I do believe they know who it is but not releasing that information. They are not even using the customary next of kin notification.

What would they blow up the second time that the initial explosion would not have taken care of

I think I read that they blew up the guy's backpack. Just to make sure nothing was in it also. Apparently, according to their reports there was no bomb in it.

I haven't read very many posts on this thread ~ has anyone broken out the tin-foil hats, or are they in order yet?

The school prez says suicide, the campus cops don't know and the feds ain't talkin' ~ very interesting. ;)

A build-a-burger conspiracy ~ maybe??

"Connect the dots. FBI does it all the time when dealing with serial killers."

But in most cases I have heard of, the dots they connect HAVE NEVER led them to the killer. It is only through other means (other than connecting dots) that the killer has been found out.

indeed, when they can't ID the body blown up - I guess they will have to call him "John Doe #3" - you know, one more then the last Oklahoma John Doe.

The group capable of doing such things is FAR larger than you might believe. When I was a kid, I used to go to the Norwalk Public Library and pull both volumes of "The Chemistry and Technology of Explosives" from the reference shelf. Published in Krakow, Poland, IIRC. I had a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook in the mid-70's. Found a second-hand store near my mom's place in Homeland, CA, that sold copies of the U.S. Army TM on improvised explosives. They had at least hundreds of them, priced at $3 each, about 10 or 11 years ago.
