From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

No ammo is allowed to be sold on eBay.

I'm not sure what good he'd do in Oklahoma. His family in CO might need him more right now than his dead son who's body will probably be in limbo until the investigation is done.

I am surprised anyone talked to him since the name was only released at 4:00

The report was posted here an hour or so after the name was released. Certainly possible that the report was credible.

"Playing cat and mouse with someone?"

Who knows... Considering this was mentioned during a frat meeting perhaps they were planning an event at a range and were trying to buy a considerable amount of ammo? In that case he could've given the frat house address as the ship to address. (If he was paying through PayPal his dorm address could be listed in that account as it may be the billing address for the credit card so that may be where the seller got the address from?)

The thing that's also puzzling is why would the seller make a mistake on the date of shipment? I'm leaning towards thinking this transaction raised a few flags and was being watched by the FEDS. That would account for the missing shipment, and the address situation had Heinrichs purposely OR innocently not registered the dorm addy...

“mild explosive device,” euphemism for blast cap?

Here are two from the OU Daily's Comments section. I can't vouch for the authors being truthful, obviously.

I have had several classes with that guy and he has always been a little different. Always obsessed with guns and ammunition and things of that nature. He did a class project on an armor piercing bullet one time, thought that was kind of weird as well considering that he had all the plans all drawn out perfectly prior to the assignment even being assigned. He never seemed like he was a threat or anything like that though. I would like to thank the authorities for handling the situation so well. Also, I think the term "suicide bomber" that the media has been using is a little heavy of a term to be using for the situation at this current time in the investigation.

I know that guy...

We have photos- they're okay - from the general crime area- we also saw some rather shocking things while we were there. We were able to get by most of the uniforms...email for info.

Thanks I appreciate that greatly. That makes it much more likely this was a sting operation, and that this person was on some "list" to be watched.

' Seems odd: nothing out of the ordinary and "somehow lost the confidence that his life would be a good one". '

Might sound odd to most FReepers, but I know what it's like to hear a lot of negativity. Strange as it sounds, negativity is normal in some lives.

Thank you. I think the minutes thing is useless. Just juvenile minds goofing on each other.

So were 8400 people in the stadium or 84,000? I'm seeing both numbers reported in this thread.

Meanwhile, what information is available to President Boren that gives him such confidence that this was a suicide and nothing more?

I think some explanations publicly clarifying these statements and providing some justification for them is a reasonable thing to expect.

As it is, the way this is being handled in and by the press stinks to high heaven.

If they don't have anything to say, that's fine, but this business of making unsupported assertions about the crime scene is woefully unprofessional, and I hope those involved -- particularly President Boren, in whose integrity my confidence is rapidly diminishing -- will start giving the public a little credit, for crying out loud.

I ask Mr. Boren and those managing the news in this case to please not pee on our legs and tell us it's raining.

That's insulting, and we deserve better.

Well, given his previously stated penchant for guns and ammo perhaps it is "code speak"...

This one sounds like the guy is weird; maybe he did have the personality of a person who kills himself.

Some of his stuff does seem weird, but remember 2 things:
first, these are engineers. they have a different sense of humor than everyone else.
Second, much of this is probably inside humor shared amongst friends. Inside humor always looks weird to outsiders.

Still a good idea to keep looking. There doesn't seem to be any evidence so far of jihadism, but the rules of jihad require that one blend in. He's blending in with the engineers quite nicely.

I think he made it up.

How could you talk to the guy's frat brother on the phone and not ask him if his friend was the type to blow himself to smithereens?

In the event that this individual had valid information, it would likely be best for them to convey the information to the proper investigating group

Did you want the guy to go to the FBI with the info that he had talked to someone in the fraternity and was told Henrichs was not a Muslim? As if the FBI can't talk to the frat boys themselves!

Now you're talking "valid information". Earlier you were sure it was just D*MN LIES...You sound cofused.

There was no link provided for the name. The only fact that I am aware of is that something went boom, and somebody died. The early reports in the media said "suicide bomb". That is now in question.

It is also possible the device was timed to go off during halftime. The first half supposedly ran late, so he was the only one there.

When I was in a fraternity, we were trained to never comment on anything to the press or outsiders. I think the zotted poster made it up.

LOL. We've got the three names, and even a III thrown in for good measure.

If this kid is not a wacko suicide bombing nutcase, I feel sorry for his untimely death and for his family.

Wonder what they're going through?
