Fired CBSer Cries Foul (Mary Mapes: names FreeRepublic.com as "the birth of political jihad")
NY Post ^ | 10/5/5 | Adam Buckman

October 5, 2005 -- THE producer at the center of last year's "Memogate" scandal at CBS News says she was derailed by a vast right-wing conspiracy.

The producer, Mary Mapes, is one of four CBS staffers fired last January in the wake of the scandal.

She is convinced she was the victim of a group of loosely associated Internet bloggers "with a harsh political bent" who pounced on CBS News minutes after the airing of the now-infamous Texas Air National Guard story on "60 Minutes 2" in September 2004...

"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes...

"They were hard-core, politically angry, hyperconservative sites loaded with vitriol about Dan Rather and CBS."

"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.

"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."

Well pride comes before the fall....

It was their arrogance that created the blindspot that allowed them to not see us working infront of their face and to give them a false sense of confidence that they believed they could get away with it like they always have.

WHICH brings me to an important point. We at FR can not become as arrogant and prideful about what we do here. Or we will get spanked the same way.

"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.

It is amazing how these elitists are shocked that everyone does not agree with their liberal viewpoints.

Something else to remember, is that CBS "news" seemed to have an agenda of running stories that it deemed harmful to President Bush in the weeks leading up to the election. It seems like there was a book published (by a company that was owned by the same parent company that owned CBS) about every other week, and that weekend, the book and author would be highlighed on 60 Minutes, in some cases, where the entire show was dedicated to the book, author, and "scandal."

And if I recall correctly, the whole "TNG Documents" deal actually broke early, didn't it? IIRC, It was supposed to come out the weekend BEFORE the election, so that the Bush administration would have no way to respond before the votes were cast. But one newspaper began leaking it, and the stuff hit the fan, and it all went to hell for Danny and CBS.

So I guess she got ZOTTED. Unfortunately, her whining goes beyond being a retread troll on FR.

Dear Mary: The documents were BLATANTLY fake. You obviously wanted to air them because you thought they were "fake but accurate". Now to get the "accurate" part right, you have to have something called "proof". Until you have proof, you and see-BS can STFU.

That post is so wrong on so many levels.... what catches my eye is the DUmmie's sanctimonious sig-line: "The modern conservative is engaged in... the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

For crying out loud!! I don't know any conservatives demanding that someone else pay for their healthcare or subsidize their groceries or their housing or to guarantee them jobs or to compensate them because of wrongs done to their ancestors by someone else's ancestors ...

It's the leftists who have taken sloth and greed and envy and tried to re-brand them as almost virtuous symptoms of being "disadvantaged" or "opressed" or exploited by those evil "winners of life's lottery."

Sorry... just had to jump on a soap box for a minute. I feel better now.

Mapes is a nut. "Pounced within minutes."

They wouldn't have pounced if there wasn't a fraudulent, forged document to pounce on.

Who's she blaming now???

This is a lot like a murderer trying to turn sentiment against the police by blaming the police for exposing her crime.

That was so much easier than EMail lists and FTP that came even earlier than that... The real birth was the OJ trial and Usenet in '94. Then it morphed over to Whitewater - I found out about FR at the very beginnnig (96?) when a lib Usenet poster told Jim Noble to go back to FreeRepublic.

Politcal Jihad or Forced Accountability?

Mary, you must embrace tough questions and commentary from all sides before creating your Theorems. Or didn't they teach you that in Journalism school?

Classic......Never heard of us because she didn't do her home work.

You get an F in Journalism class, Lou Sar. Don't know any company or school who would welcome a lazy intellectual....Wait, where does Ward Churchill teach?

Just amazing that she still can't admit that she lied, and tried to influence a US Presidential Election.
