80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

Posted on 10/11/2005 9:08:44 PM PDT by freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

Saad and Myers are out. Even some Republican Senators said they would have voted against them, and they were withdrawn after the deal with the Gang of 14.

Myers and Boyle are presently on The Senate's Daily Executive Calendar.

Show me where Saad has been withdrawn.

Gawd, I hope he does not fill the last spot with Gonsalez.

You can hope all you like, it won't change things one iota.

Don't worry though, Gonzales-based upon the slim majority he attained in his AG confirmation vote-would probably be DOA if his name was ever forwarded to the Senate.

"We also know that Bush only considered women for the slot. If he had five women in mind, four declined. That's believeable. He should have broadened his criteria to include men instead of playing affirmative action quota games. He would have found qualified nominees willing to face the jackals on the Senate Judiciary Commitee."

I have not made up my mind and I am willing (somewhat) to give the President the benefit of the doubt, however, I was not happy about the comments by Laura Bush that sexism was a possible motive for discontent, nor was I thrilled that the thread discussing that was pulled this morning. If Mrs. Bush makes a comment, then as far as I'm concerned, her comments are up for discussion.

What I love are posters who use the term "RINO" three posts after they announce they are leaving the GOP for the umpteenth time.

Well, I'm talking about the RINOs in the US Senate. There are NO RINOs on FR. We're all battle-hardened, right-wing wacko conservatives!!

I agree. It's also cover for the President regarding his poor choice. Nice way to float it around with NO documentation. I want to see a well researched article with names of the candidates who withdrew and comments from some or all of them.

I was even more irked by the fact that some people decided to criticize us for speaking out against the First Lady's comments.

Since when is criticizing pro-abortion, pro-quota public figures disallowed?

For the most part, it hasn't so far. But...I can look myself in the mirror.

That should be reason enough.

Here's another example of a President leaning hard on somebody to take a nomination.

Forty years ago, President Johnson nominated his longtime attorney and confidant to replace Associate Justice Arthur Goldberg. Fortas demurred, but Johnson was not deterred. While he considered several other candidates, including a number of Republicans, Johnson did not stop pressuring Fortas and eventually got his man.

they were withdrawn after the deal with the Gang of 14.

Proves the point, doesn't it? Nominees were withdrawn after the unconstitutional filibuster was given credibility by the Gang of 14?

I've been bewildered by the lack of focused energy against the filibuster. I looked back at some FR threads after the deal was sealed, and wonder just how many people now griping about the situation we're in can honestly look in a mirror and say their own failures have nothing to do with the Miers nomination.

That includes George W. Bush IMO.

If energies are focused on defeating the filibuster, either through discrediting those behind it or out and out changing the rules of the Senate, then the people so many want nominated will actually be nominated. Until then, nothing's gonna change.

LOL, I miss jeffro troll. He was a fun. And Avator was one fine poster. Never hoped on Pat's band wagon, but I certainly understood the appeal. Then I was just too much of an establishment guy to leave the GOP, these days I am not so sure.

I was in the middle of going after a diehard feminist when I realized the post had been pulled.
