During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

I noted during the confirmation hearings that one week JR Brown was the incarnation of evil in the modern world, then after the Gang of 14 Compromise she was the Distinguished Jurist from California, and how it would take no great exercise of doublethink at all for the demorats to revert to the Whore Of Babylon assessment if she got nominated for SCOTUS.
Pure DIS-information.
And note how many are falling for it.
The very fact that Dr. Dobson's name has been dragged in the nomination process does not bode well for Counsellor Miers.
We know that when Family Oriented organizations are consulted, the left start to scream bloody murder.
With this new information leaked out ironically, Bush's desire to avoid a protracted, bloody fight will not be realized. I expect more blood to be drawn now than with the Bork or Thomas nomination.
It does not look good for Miers that conservatives are lukewarm to her nomination and the left are now going to go apoplectic upon hearing that Dobson was consulted in the process.
In the end, she will get less vote from the Dems than Roberts did and less votes from the GOP than Roberts did. Whether she can reach the magic 51 number remains to be seen, but it isn't looking good.
She'll get 50 or more republican votes. If they can vote for Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg they most certainly had better vote for Miers.

Are you at all familiar with these hearings or just commenting from afar? First, not all of the current justices went through this process as it is conducted today. Secondly, politicians are not subject to this kind of direct, eye ball to eye ball questioning and have some control of their stages. Third, this isn't about the honor of the men and women who might be nominated, it's about the lack of honor in the process. Consider that before you make your military comparisons.
Fact is that George Washington did not run a version of "American Idol" but picked people whom he knew personally. Maybe Knox was not the best possible pick for secretary of war, but he had been a damned good artiullery commander, and Washington trusted him. Yeah, there are those who think of him as a crony.

However, you did refer to the story as "steer manure", a nice way of saying "bull s**t". Taken to its logical conclusion that implies one of two things. Either Rove lied about the potential nominees removing themselves OR Dr. Dobson lied about what was said. Hence, the question I posed to you.
You Druids need to chill out and let the nomination hearings take place, primarily because you don't have a choice in the matter. If Miers comes across as anything she's not been built up to be, I and I'm sure many others will be right there beside you.
There's no excuse however, for the shameful, slanderous and insulting language that's been directed towards Miers and the President over the last week on this website. I'd have expected it from the moonbats over at Democratic Underground but not here. Sorry to say, I was sadly mistaken.

No, of course not. I just have a very high respect for my fellow conservatives and would be surprised to hear that 80% of them wouldn't jump at the chance to put our courts on the right track and do their service for their country. Also since conservatives care about merit, it would be an even higher honor for most of them to serve on the SCOTUS, regardless of the pay cut or ridicule of the loser MSM.
I don't fault them for fearing all the intense media attention and attacks though. Particularly when they attack your family members.
Maybe for some being The Big Dog in their jurisdiction is more important than being part of the pack.

I don't have any evidence, just my post #736. I'm not trying to smear anyone, especially Mr. Dobson, but I just think conservatives are better than that.
Frankly, shirking away from these Democrat and RINO bullies is just going to empower them even more. If 80% of our guys don't even want to put their hat in the ring then the bad guys have won already. I understand most people would not be willing to make the sacrifice to fight them, but I would.
The catch though is that I would also have to ask my family to make the same sacrifice.
