In Wilma's wake, relief falls short, tempers shorter

No power, no gas, no water--and for many, no help.

South Floridians began to comprehend the long-term affects of Hurricane Wilma on Tuesday, as it became increasingly clear that residents could spend the next few days, if not weeks, waiting in lines for basic supplies, coveting working showers and toilets, and in many cases, kicking themselves for underestimating the damage a Category 2 storm could bring.

The state and local government is prepared. They prepared people with sage advice, "you must be prepared with 3-4 days food and water because help could easily take that long to get to you."

That is MORE than the government OWES anybody. You have to be a pure dope to not have seen a hurricane coming.

I'm telling you all this hurricane aid is Darwinism interruptus. Same goes for anybody that takes a tropical vacation without looking at and heeding a weather report.

This is one of two or three areas where Fox is no better than the MSM. They just love these poor pathetic dopes that are not prepared.

Another area is the Fitzgerald investigation--noticed that the reporting today is full of breathless anticipation of seeing Rove or Libby indicted. They looked and sounded terribly disappointed when they were told "no news today." Fox is MSM, with the possible exception of Brit Hume.

The really funny thing is that when gas prices go up people buy more. They horde. Buy low, sell high.

I was thinking the other day that Roger Ailes needs to take a long hard look at where this network is headed. I think a big problem is locating FNS in New York City. I enjoy a visit to the the City as much as anyone but stuck on stupid is the political moto. I think they should pick the whole thing up and move it to Orlando or central Missouri or some such place. I know, Twin Falls, Idaho. It would weed out the Starbucks-staff and get some real red blooded Americans on the payroll. Place is where people do not read the NYT.

They've become hurricane snobs.LOL.

Seriously, we had a Category 1 Hurricane Claudette blow in here without much warning a couple of years ago. Lots of trees down because the ground was already saturated when it came ashore. I was without power for 5 days. I'm beginning to think there's more to these hurricanes than the categories we tag them with.

It all gets back to local and state governments NOT BEING PREPARED

Maybe these idiots should exercise a little self-initiative and get ready for the storm themselves.

I keep 400# of food (rice and beans keep forever and are cheap) prepped in my house in case disaster strikes. these retards could put a couple of barrels of water and food aside considering they live in a hurricane strike zone and were warned well over a week in advance.

Just consider that for every whiner the MSM uses in their story, there are 100's of people that WERE prepared and aren't whining.

One problem is that Florida is overpopulated with people who want the warm weather and beaches, but not the downside of life in Florida.

I went house-hunting in Florida last year, and with all of the over-building and destruction of wet areas that provide a cushion for storms, decided that the area is neither sustainable nor evacuable. Plus, there was a lot of new construction, before fix-up was even done from last year's 'canings.

What would they ever do with all of the Seniors and disabled who can't drive if every area a storm might hit was evacuated? Fact is, maybe people should have supplies on hand for the season, hunker down, and hope the storm isn't too hideous. You just can't put millions of people on the road every time a storm might hit.

Exactly! And I think a lot of this has to do with the media doing its best to try and knock Jeb down so they can excuse and justify the actions of Blanco and Nagin. The media, like all good liberals, is trying to apply a moral equivalence that just doesn*t exist. It*s not hard to find malcontents in any naturual disaster, but what*s worse is listening to Floridians whine when they were well aware of this hurricane.

Heck, I live in the burbs of Orlando...yet after Charlie last year, I got a generator and had all my supplies ready just in case Wilma headed this way. And this included spare food, water and gas for at least 7 days. The fact that some of these people live even closer to ground zero and didn*t have the sense to be prepared, indicates an ignorance that I can*t even comprehend after seeing what happened to this state last year.

My sister called me this AM from Atlanta. She was so mad after seeing some of the folks complaining in S. Florida.

I don't watch much TV, so I wasn't aware of it.

She said, that the folks knew for days a hurricane was coming, so why didn't they at least have some food and water on hand.

Fortunately, Florida had few deaths and comparisons require an enormous stretch but, as you say, MSM is trying.

Guess you didn't read prior thread that the government does not restore power. The power company does. Your ignorance on the complicated job restoring power is apparent. Just take a couple of aspirins and get a nights rest. Maybe it'll go away.

Does a county prepare for 100% electrical grid failure?
