I heard the answers were turned in this morning, and the resignation letter was announced close to the same time.

The deadline was midnight last night. NPR reported this morning that thy had not been received. But then again, that's NPR.

I remember an avalanche of negative comments when Roberts was announced. Conservatives had already presented their list, and Roberts wasn't on it - shock and horror!

I agree. He really looks weak now. Hope everyone is happy. Now the Dems will really be on the warpath against whoever he nominates. Bush should have reminded everyone he is still the president and can nominate whomever he feels like. Be careful what you wish for...

Great point. All the whinyassed, hardcore, nontrusting, ramitdownyourthoats ought to be happy thier President caved after bitchin and moaning that he caves on everything!

You'll get absolutey nowhere with this...

GREAT!

Finally, conservative activists have pr oven that they can get something done!

Now, watch President Bush closely. My bet is he will appoint another justice that is NOT one of the top candidates we are well aware of (Luttig, Jones, Brown, etc.). For some reason, President Bush has abandoned conservatives, being the liberal he is.

Now let's get a true conservative.

Echo that.  Maybe Miers saw that commercial on FNC running this week?

Bush needs to come back hard and strong - just as Rush said yesterday. Add indictments to this loss and Bush looks mighty wounded.

Not a huge suprise.

The attacks on that poor woman were visceral! I don't think I could have taken it.

"What's his church membership?"

I'm still waiting to hear what Harriet Miers' church membership REALLY is. Several stories still out there, no one has set it straight. That was a primary reason for not trusting in her nomination 100%.

Ah, the Krauthammer gambit. Thanks for that, Charles.

"That creates a classic conflict, not of personality, not of competence, not of ideology, but of simple constitutional prerogatives: The Senate cannot confirm her unless it has this information. And the White House cannot allow release of this information lest it jeopardize executive privilege.

Hence the perfectly honorable way to solve the conundrum: Miers withdraws out of respect for both the Senate and the executive's prerogatives."

And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates.

Not if the person is an actual conservative that will uphold the Constitution. People are tired of being blindsided and are ready for real men to stand up and fight for what is right.
