Well, considering Spector said he wouldn't support any of the nominees who were the subject of the Gang of 14 compromise, JRB has a rather massive uphill battle.

Yep. Specter said nobody who has been filibustered will be supported.

It'll be Edith Clement or that Williams chick from SC. It will be a woman, for sure.

I've taken a lot of heat for supporting W through this whole thing, even though I'm a JRB fan.

This may be a time for all the BushBashers to put their money where there fingers are. If W nominates a real conservative, we'd better pull together.

It could be an opportunity for the "base" to rally.

I do get it, though.

No, you are wrong...from what I read "MOST" who opposed Miers opposed her because she was unqualified and a poor choice. I fully support the president and many things he does, and I did not "hate" Miers. I'm glad she did the right thing.

So stop banging your little spoon on your highchair and lets see if the president will nominate a qualified conservative for this extremely important position.

Just remember most of the people who opposed Miers were the same who opposed Roberts and oppose everything the Preisdent does. They hate him just as much as the kook left does which is why they sound more and more like them every day.

You mean people like me, who weren't thrilled with Bush's spending, but organized all campaign events for him on my campus last fall because I knew he had said he would nominate judges like Scalia and Thomas? I wasn't excited about Roberts (face it, he's pretty dull), but I happily supported him because he appears reasonably conservative and is so well qualified. And I'll happily support any strict constructionist Bush nominates, since that is the reason I supported him in the first place.

You aren't a conservative, so don't try tell those of us who are how to accomplish our goals.

Somehow the "pundits" seem to have taken over the running of the GOP. Pundits who have never been elected to anything, get paid primarily for attracting attention through loose and unsupported commentary, and have never even been on the town council, let alone run a country.

Bush needs to turn things around and if he can force the Dems back into the filibuster corner it'll be great. Of course then it'll be up to those "moderate" GOP senators.

Fat chance on Luttig. Get ready for Alberto Gonzales.

Laura Ingraham just began her show by saying "The first thing we should do is thank Harriet Miers, what she did was a hard thing to do."

Whether or not she was qualified is irrelevant to me at this time. I do not know if she was qualified.

My side of the aisle did not give follow their own guidelines. An up or down vote. If she was as incomptetent as has been portrayed, it would have been obvious during the hearings. On the flip side, maybe we would have found out she was comptent. I do not know. I only know what others think they know.

Hell, the venom began as soon as her last name was out of the President's mouth. The GOP has it's fair share of hypocrites. Imagine what would be happening if they took such a hard line against the lies Joe Wilson has been peddling as fact or against the tactics of the dems.

Do they really think that the Dems are going to let a true conservative judge go thru? If they are giving Miers a hard time what will they do to any of the real conservative judges? They will slam them left and right. We won't get anyone thru that way. In a way, the Dems have won.

This is Republicans vs. MediaCrats (the Dems are just too ineffective to be considered a serious opponent). I've wanted to take on the media for 20 years...and now it's going to happen. Yahoooooo!

I've got your back! ;)

Miers was nominated because she could have been confirmed!!

And if the President nominates say, Justice Brown and she does get shot down, it will still set a precident.

There will never again be a Ginsberg, either.
