I still will never understand why people didn't want to hear her out.

I've mentioned it numerous times...If she proved to be too liberal for the Republicans, the Democrats plus a few of the liberal Republicans could still vote her in...The sad thing is, FR seems to loaded with plenty of Rinos who would side with the Dems as well...

Fortunately, there are still enough people across the country that made enough noise that the President came out of his trance and did the smart thing...

Miers was nominated because she could have been confirmed!!

You believe that ... if it gives you comfort!

You apparently have not been paying attention to the negative reactions she received when "visiting" senators. Each "visit" made it less likely that she would succeed.

Still on about that, I see.

You're never going to get through to the "My president, right or wrong" crowd.

yes, the unfair cheap shots taken at her did nothing but cause harm.

That said, the substantive issues need to be debated.

I just hope you aren't like some of the freepers that just want to keep it up...

Doesn't anyone ever "win" with class anymore?

If they looked at the man that they have been intent on smearing for over three weeks...they MIGHT see class in action.

Jeesh, here's hoping you are right. But the vibe I am sensing is not one of control.

Fine. You can't get over the previous rewording of the question.

How about this:

If I elect you and you vote against my position, thus causing me to then vote against you... who's fault is it that you are no longer in office?

Tell it to the Dems.......

It is their coalition that is the enemy.....

It is they who we had to defeat.

Now portions of the coalition on our side have turned on their brethren. It is the beginning of the end of this coalition and new ones will have to be formed.

What will occur is that the center will cut out the far right and far left and by doing so, create a new coalition.

Some have punched their tickets, as they say.

If Rove goes, W is dead in the water and his spiteful nature will surface for everyone to see. It will be the harbinger his political death.

No one can doubt that Karl Rove is a brilliant election strategist; however, W never does better than when Karen Hughes is around. Could the potential indictment of Rove be the reason W brought Hughes back to DC from Texas ... and put her in a nothing job at the State Department ... so that she could easily step right into Rove's shoes?

That was close. We almost had one of those E Christians on the court. She's history and we now have a weakened president during a time of war. I hope he's putting on those Cowboy boots.

My original reference was regarding those in contention for the Supreme Court.

Good point about Miguel Estrada. The Liberals really did give him an extremely difficult time.

I just hope you aren't like some of the freepers that just want to keep it up... Doesn't anyone ever "win" with class anymore?

My postings speak for me, and they create a subjective impression that differs for each reader. As for "winning with class," my approach from the start of this nomination was to decray the way it was being played. Particularly, that "deep stealth" isn't fair play. When the rules are "deep stealth," all of the people lose in the long run - even if the home team gets a score.

If they looked at the man that they have been intent on smearing for over three weeks...they MIGHT see class in action.

I tend to not take criticism personally (believe it or not - the reason I point it out to others is to attempt to shame them into stopping it because attacks detract from reasoned debate), and probably for that reason, don't see my criticism as being personally directed against the President.

I try to also honestly express how his actions make me feel. Not in an effort to cause others to feel the same way, but as a data point to illustrate what the President's actions cause to some fraction of the voting public.

I've been very clear, I think that advancing stealth nominations amounts to a dangerous practice for self-governance. And if the President is doing that, and if the GOP is promoting it as "fair play," well, I am going to criticize the actors. Government works better when the RIGHT debate is on the table. That's my heartfelt belief, and will stay so even if I am in a tiny minority in that regard.

OK..........

This is not Bush's fault.....

It is very rare, in fact unprecedented, that a nominee withdraw without a nanny gate or something in the record.

They tried to save her some face with the BS about the information requests. That info was apparently never requested.

I think it was the AD run yesterday that was the straw that broke the back.

She just could not take the pounding and I don't blame her.

The right wing portion of the base is not that big. We could cut all of you loose and replace you with moderate dems, and that may well occur....(Watch McCain, who has already started, and the others as they begin their campaigns)

You may find yourself making a difficult decision as to where you stay. I have a serious problem with McCain but others may be more to my liking, but they will not be as Conservative as you profess to be. They will be moderate repubs that you have already demonstrated your disdain for.

There will be no CONSERVATIVE republican to vote for after the primaries, and that is where we differ. You think you can change th face of the political landscape.

So does Rush!

I say you cannot. I say you have to deal with the cards you get, and that you cannot create a base large enough to win a national election without compromising a great deal.

But if you think you can! Knock yourselves out!

I will be watchin the show.....

Thirty three other nominations have failed - that is almost one per president.

This is not rare and far from unprecedented - in fact, it's pretty common.

Maybe we are just using different terms. What do you consider "Right Wing" and what do you consider "the base"?

caratid..

I just got a lesson today, If I may be so humble as to pass the link along... re: 25th ammendment:

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment25/#annotations

I believe there is more going on here re: the attack on the Republican / (Conservatives) party first tier. Frist, Delay, Rove to get to Bush, Scooter to get to Cheney.....

Read the link to the end.

Rockefeller memo... remember that?

There is a method to the Dems madness and the Miers withdrawal has jacked up their track.

Makes one wonder.

CFRelations / Trilateral Commission.... When the first tier is wiped out, who stands to ascend to the Presidency? I had to read it 3 times (the link that is).. a coup is at hand.

For the 'adults' on the forum to think about.
