I think you are on to something. If McCain has not already signed on with Alito, I think he will see that he must after the "Conservative Crackdown."

I think that Alito's confirmation will be slightly more difficult than John Roberts', but in the wide view, so relatively easy that everyone will wonder why Bush ever thought it was necessary to nominate a stealth candidate.

AND...Bush just knocked the Today Show for a loop with their Saint Joe Wilson interview this morning! It would be beautiful if he comes out to nominate him just as Wilson is about to come on.

It is now formal: Conservative Protestant Southerners are VERBOTEN on SCOTUS.

Since they're so over represented in the other two branches are they really needed on SCOTUS? ;)

Good, I hope for a miracle on Alito and it goes to a vote and passes, even if by only 51-50.

Any word on Arlen Specter's reaction? Could Arlen himself hold up this nomination in committee? Would the White House already have gotten a commitment from Arlen to get the nomination to the floor even if he plans to vote nay?

Coulter will say that Bush should have consulted her first and that candidate X was a better choice. Frum will be ticked that Alito is opposed to first trimester abortions (Canuck Frum is pro-abort). Krauthammer will moan and groan about Alito's views on stem cells.

Give it up. Miers was a bad choice and Bush has now corrected it. You will hear very little whinning from those on the right.

Somebody on NRO brought a good point: the fact that Miers was there when they choose Alito as her replacement, seems to show that she's a classy and professional lady. Yes, we don't know how she behaved there, but I'm sure she's a good team player. I didn't like her being a SCOTUS nominee, but I think I have to thank her for her loyalty and professionalism.

War on terror, tax cuts, federal judges, pro-life, No Kyoto, etc.

This country truly is F%^Ked up and the whoring polititions have made it that way.

You obviously do not understand politics nor how our system works. It is designed to ensure the politicians are the whores of the people----that's what keeps the people in charge of the system.

Good Morning America had George Stephonapolous on and he says it will be a fight to get Alito confirmed. He also noted that Alito will be the (GASP!)FIFTH Catholic sitting on the supreme court if he is confirmed. I'm glad to see President Bush picked Alito, although I was holding on to hope for Janice Rogers Brown.
