True, the nomination was going down, but in order for the President to retain control of the process, HM had to withdraw for at least semi-plausible reasons. Krauthammer (and no one else, I might add, until later) provided that. Fred Barnes lamented that since Krauthammer said this brilliant plan publicly, it would be unable to be implemented. Regardless, it was a plan of action, and we got Alito instead of Miers. A good day's work, indeed.

I WAS WRONG, this nominee is a great improvement over Harriet Miers, on paper at least.. I still believe many showed poor judgment in the method in which the way our President was openly so criticized for his initial choice.. GO BUSH, and congratulation to Judge Alito.. Another Italian would improve any group of intellectuals, or underworld crime family.. :)

If he is not qualified to serve on the Supreme Court, then no conservative is qualified.

Great words from the Great One. We know that it is the left's belief that conservatism (which is, in fact, what makes this country great, in my view) is unacceptable in any venue, so, as Mad Ivan has said, ride toward the sound of the guns. I think, in the end, we will be the ones left standing.

I've been disgusted with liberal, activist comments by the prists at Mass lately as well ..to the extreme of even publicly disagreeing with Vatican decisions and actions. I will be calling the Cardinal's office in the not too distant future. We shouldn't have to hear their ramblings at prayer services.

I don't have time to listen to all the talk shows but I do catch Tony, Rush, and Hannity. I love listening to Laura and she is one of the best but Tony has my attention in that time slot (East Coaster).

"On Fox it's already started: "The President has pandered to the most extreme wing of his political party..blah, blah, blah"

Translation, President Bush has put up another one of those pesky conservatives who will behave as a Judge, not a legislator, on the SCOTUS, and represents the conservative movement, the majority of the American people.

I will love to hear how the democrats will not vote for Alito, even though ALL but two (who obstained I believe) of the Republicans voted for that socialistic child sex fan Ginsburg. There is no upside on this for democrats if Alito is a real hard conservative constructionist Judge. Now it's time to REALLY put the screws to the RINOs in the Senate.

Miers was picked for sexist reasons. Her main qualification other than being a Bush friend was her gender.

I would have preferred a Southerner who hasn't been in the Ivy Halls his whole professional career. And I would have preferred a woman but looks like there were just no qualified women left.
