Looks like McCain is on board for Alito.

Heheheh. Great news when that is confirmed. It'll put pressure on the weak sisters Snowe and Collins.

Methinks the DEMs are boxed in. I wonder if they'll hold their tongues for a day or so while they truy to figure out how they are going to attack this nomination.

Maine has a real hard time voting out incumbents.

I wonder if this pick could also in a second hand way help Senator Rick Santorum from PA. I am getting the idea that Alito is well known in the PA, NJ area. If a battle begins it might bring our the conservatives in PA in full force.

news says the DNC will fight this because he is TOO conservative

Well then impeach Ginsberg and Stevens because they are too Marxist.

Notice how the MSM (even FOX News) calls Alito a "replacement for O'Connor".

What a lie! Alito would be a replacement for Rehnquist. Roberts was picked to replace O'Connor then Rehnquist died. The probable moderate Roberts replaced the Marxist O'Connor. Alito is replacing Rehnquist.

The reason why the MSM wants to keep saying this is a replacement for O'Connor is that it draws a starker contrast and helps boost the RATs case that they will demand another Marxist and Alito is "too conservative". I doubt Alito would be more conservative than Rehnquist. SCOTUS will continue to move left.

"..Enough with the friggin sour grapes from the Miers crowd. Miers crashing and burning had nothing to do with SMU or being Evangelical. Her 1993 pro-abortion speech was her nail in her coffin. Her stance on being pro-quotas did not help along with a history of donating to Dems. Miers was void of any real conservative credentials. End of discussion. Let's get on with getting the real nominees confirmed.

Quick name me the SCOTUS person who is currently an Evangelical? Who was the last one? An accident?

As a Catholic, let me just say this. Now that there are five Catholics on the court (or will be) we can implement our Master Plan. {Diabolical laughing}

Good one. I can't wait for the US to withdraw from the UN and join the Vatican.

It's beginning to occur to the Dems that maybe elections have consequences.

I think the outcry from conservatives/conservative Republicans is giving pause, as well, to those with "R" after their names who have been voting any way other than "R". I've read the outcry from the conservatives "shocked" the Rats and the media; it may well have also shocked the "Republicans" in elected office.

Just heard on the news that Senator Reid "strenuously objects" to this nomination.

Did he give a reason, other than Bush is pandering to far right wing branch of the conservative movement?

Me too. I am receiving the secret papal messages via email as we speak.

If the RATS are angry, bitter, upset, cranky, whiney, then . . . .. I am thrilled!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for explaining the intent of your original post. I agree that being an evangelical isn't enough and we both agree on this pick. I responded to your original post becasue it sounded like you thought religion had no influence or relation to one's philosophical worlview including legal philosophy. I would submit that all knowledge including yours has a "faith component." You and I didn't test and verify every single bit of knowledge we rely on and that's a good thing because it's impossible to do so. Remember, all those books we trusted in high school? Even an atheist's worldview is composed of a certain amount of faith. In fact, I don't have enough faith to be an atheist.

Things to Know About Alito
[Mark R. Levin 10/31 07:48 AM]

Sam Alito has spent his entire professional career defending the Constitution. The president and Alito deserve our strong support. It is clear the media this morning are urging Democrats to fight this nomination, not that they need that much encouragement. We are already hearing the usual superficial analyses about how Judge Alito will vote on specific issues, and so forth. We must be prepared to explain and defend our judicial philosophy, and contrast it with the left's lawlessness.

I have known Judge Alito for two decades. We served together in the Meese Justice Department, where he worked in the Solicitor General's Office and was considered the sharpest of Charles Fried's assistants. He is every bit as smart and personable as Chief Justice John Roberts. He is an expert on constitutional law. And he obviously has a longer judicial record, so his judicial philosophy is well-known. Judge Alito is soft-spoken. He is his own man (efforts in the media this morning to paint him as "Scalia-lite" or "Scalito" are intended to fire-up the leftwing base). If he is not qualified to serve on the Supreme Court, then no conservative is qualified.

Remember according to the MSM Republican Presidents must only nominate "moderates" while Democratic Presidents can nominate folks even to the left of Lenin.

"But Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned that a nomination of Alito, or any other candidates too far to the right, could run into trouble.

"This is not one of the names I've suggested to the president," Reid said yesterday of Alito on CNN's "Late Edition."

"In fact, I've done the opposite," he said. "I think it would create a lot of problems.""

What a bottom-feeding, Dashole-clone. I feel good about this nomination. Screw Harry. If he and his cohorts don't like Alito, jam him down their throats until they're forced to shut up and cower in the corners, repeating: "Our power is gone! Our power is gone!!" and weeping like the little girls they are (no slight on little girls).

And I'm glad Bush picked someone with balls (literally). Enough of this Supreme-Court-by-quota crap. Next time we need your input, Laura, we'll elect YOU President. If these morons had their way, only a black person could replace Justice Thomas, an Italian put up there when Scalia retires, a witch when Ruth bites the dust, etc, etc. It's a position of non-thinking.

Nor do I have any respect for that other class of deluded simpletons, like Cokie Roberts, who whined yesterday about "airy fairy" nominees who didn't have "real world experience". Right, Cokie. I'm all for my garbage man deciding complicated issues of constitutional law. Great idea.

That said, Bush seems to have avoided all of these pitfalls this time around - so, good for him! It's gonna be fun watching the RATS sputter and rant: "He...he... he was ACTUALLY IN SUPPORT of a Father being told his unborn son or daughter was going to be sucked into a vacuum cleaner! Wahhhhhhh....."
