BOBIGNY, France (Reuters) -- French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy defended his tough crime policies on Monday after a fourth night of riots in a Paris suburb in which tear gas was fired into a mosque.

Sarkozy, addressing police officers, vowed to find how tear gas had been fired into the Muslim place of worship, an incident which had helped fuel the disturbances.

Youths hurled rocks and set fire to cars in the northeastern Clichy-sous-Bois suburb of the French capital, where many immigrants and poor families live in high-rise housing estates notorious for youth violence.

...snip

French television said six police officers were hurt and 11 people arrested in violence partly fueled by the incident at the mosque. Sarkozy promised an inquiry.

"I am, of course, available to the imam of the Clichy mosque to let him have all the details in order to understand how and why a tear gas bomb was sent into this mosque," he told about 170 police officers at the prefecture.

London was bad enough when I lived there in 1980--I can't begin to imagine how it is now.

My sister goes to France every year to visit her in-laws. She is not only American, but of Jewish descent. Every year I get more and more concerned for her safety. Being the liberal she is, she used to scoff at my fears. Not after her last visit, even she was shaken by the muslim's growing open hostility. Her french is flawless and she is often mistaken for Belgium, an assumption she used to correct. She no longer corrects it.

Actually, all kidding aside, the French are not weak on anti-terrorism at all. They're just *huge* hypocrites.

Stop it! You're ruining a perfectly good bash the frogs thread for everyone.

Seriously, this is why Princess Diana got smoked. You have to be proactive about this kind of thing.
If you've noticed, Prince Charles has been running around being Mr. muslim apologist recently. He's guilty- probably ordered the whack himself. Didn't a french doctor claim she was pregnant at the time of the "accident", and then, that story was changed- real quick?

I lived on the west coast of France in the 70's. It was idyllic in the countryside and even in Paris I felt well received (spoke French fluently). I remember worrying about the stigma of the "ugly American" but never felt its sting. I think I'll let those memories linger.

Back to square one:

"I am, of course, available to the imam of the Clichy mosque to let him have all the details in order to understand how and why a tear gas bomb was sent into this mosque," he told about 170 police officers at the prefecture.

That's the funniest part of this entire thread! All Clinton is breaking loose, and he's worried about one tear gas incident. How very French of them. =]

"...did you ever do the Google search for "french military victories"? then hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button LOL..."

Well, there was Joan of Arc. That was eh... some time ago. It literally took a miracle for the French to win anything. =]

Couldnt agree with you more. I am trying to remember the last time I saw a bunch of Mexican Catholics setting up car bombs.

Not to mention the Mexican people I have met for the most part want to become a part of America, not have America become a part of them.

Sarkozy is a good man, and he will lead the 78% of the French who are getting really zutted off with the Muslims. We should support them (vocally, not militarily) when they finally show the iron glove to these guys.

Yes, I had heard about the intelligence sharing side and how well it was working out. Now if we can just get the Socialist politicians there to stop playing games.

But hey, I prefer German wine to French, and my Ustican uncle in law tells me that if its not Italian, its no good!

Fox news did their quick update about an hour ago and, although they mentioned the riots, the talking head said

1)that the riots started over two youths who were electrocuted,

2) the riots are in their 5th night, and 3)right at the end, mentioned that the three affected suburbs are home to immigrant populations, some of whom are muslim.

The two youths statement is at odds with the tickertape at the bottom of the screen that says the youths were fleeing from police.

They'll probably blame the riots on Israel.

Some years ago I heard about all the money going into Muslim child care (tax-free) organizations where the money was going to support terrorism. Nobody believed me when I talked about it. I still get a "deaf ear" response to this day. Stop hitting the snooze button America.

Good description- sleepwalking into the 21st century.
