Immigrant workers often not being paid for Katrina clean-up efforts

GULFPORT, Miss. Immigrants who are doing much of the grunt work in the clean-up after Hurricane Katrina are often finding themselves working for free -- but not by choice. Thousands of Hispanic immigrant laborers are being stiffed in Mississippi. Sometimes their bosses disappear. Sometimes they are promised payment at a later date.

It's a violation of the federal labor law not to pay workers, but many of the workers are illegal.

One man who paid 12-hundred dollars to be smuggled into the U-S from Mexico after Katrina hit has been waiting six to be paid for eight days of dawn-to-dusk labor.

A subcontractor blames the process by which payments from the U-S Army Corps of Engineers are made. But an Army Corps spokeswoman says she's not aware of any problems.

Workers who aren't paid have two options. They can file a civil suit in state court or file a federal complaint.

"Why employ illegal aliens when these same jobs can be given to American citizens?"

Send me these citizens...I need roof work done, a fence put up, my house painted, and my driveway pavers reset. Our farms need pickers, and my local McDonalds is desperate for help.

Send me your grandchildren to works these jobs.

"They really have no right at all to complain."

Hiring illegal aliens, knowing that they are illegal aliens, with the intention of not paying them is an a#&hole thing to do.

The people whose mind set would allow them to do that to an illegal, will just as easily justify ripping you off.

"I notice you leave out all the quotes from the Bible that tells us to obey the law."

That's the same technique used by Islamofascists to turn the Qu'ran into an instrument of hatred, and by those here to interpret it the same way.

Then what about this passage from the New testament,

Matthew 12:18
"Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.

Notice that nations are proclaimed. A nation has borders, and a nation that does not have a border and one without laws cannot define justice. Illegal immigrants break laws and the government overlooks therefore allowing this type of behavior does not promote a very good model of justice.

God is a god of laws and order. We cant give to the needy and welcome foreigners unless we first establish law and order, first things first…

Most people don't have a problem with legal immigrants.

Are you comparing me to an islamofascist?

Luis, your illegal groveling self is back.

Well if it is legal then there has to be some standards, I agree with you just paying lip service to the word legal is not in the sprit of actually enforcing any law.

Laws have to have some higher authority in charge and that somebody needs to limit the immigration for example, so as to make shure slums and conditions do not overtake communities, If there are no limits then in effect just making something that was illegal legal by erasing the laws, is not serving a nation and justice. In addition, in order to be legal, people have to flowing the rules like everyone else;

Having to pay income tax like at same rate as everyone else.

Having to have insurance to drive like everyone else.

Having his or her kids to pass English in order graduate from high school like everyone

Paying out of state tuition of they is from ‘out of state’

Following the health codes

Adhering to the building codes

being eligible for a job based upon merit and not a quota, which would be unfair to everyone else

These are just some examples....

Lawbreakers (crooked employers) ripping off lawbreakers (illegal aliens).

bad guy goes in to rob the convience store, the cash register is empty... they go bullistic because there is no money and start breaking things and sometimes hurting themselves, some even sue the store owners

Your analogy is really bad. The illegals are not using guns, they are not thieves, they have not gone ballistic, and if anyone is the thief, it is the guy who promises to pay and then does not pay.

illegals thinking it's the land where everything is free

Care to provide some documentation for that. According to the article, these people worked. That does not seem to support your notion that they think everything is free.

Insurgent is the exact term that these people need tagged with.

Why is that ? You think they are similar to the iraqis who use roadside bombs to kill our soldiers ?

Insurgencies come in many forms, not all violent and not all with evil intent; these are insurgents, violating the border and violating the law.

Insurgents is a term that I had heard very very rarely except to describe the terrorists in Iraq.

Labeling the illegals as insurgents is a disingenious use of the word in a dishonest smear campaign of the type that is usually associated with democrats and liberals.

I find it very disturbing that alleged conservatives would stoop to this level.

You guys don't want the illegals here, that is fine and you may even have a case for it. But don't pull this crap.
First it does not work. People are smarter than you think.

And you are making conservatives look bad when you try this.

No, I am comparing your methods to those used by an Islamofascist.

It's a bitter pill.

"Illegal."

ROTFLMAO!!!!

"Come to think of it, it's an excellent method for these illegal invaders not wanting to come back here and steal American jobs."

It's you who's justifying stealing here.

P.S. Go back and try your hardest to actually follow my original post to you.

I was co comparing the methods used by the guy you were addressing to Islamofascists.

It was you who commented to catchphrase that they had conveniently parsed the Bible to suit their agenda, I was commenting on the fact that Islamofascists do the same thing to the Qu'ran.

I see that neither your reading comprehension nor your manners have improved in the slightest during my absence.

I bet their first mindful reaction isn't to "take this job and shove it" and leave the greener pastures of freedom is it?

Well, insurgents is only one of the applicable words. You could apply "criminals" or "invaders," but the context is important, so the term "insurgent" is most appropriate.
