I strongly agree...I've posted an Amber Alert shortly after the police issued it for a local child, and it was almost immediately pulled. I seriously don't understand the reasoning behind that. The thread just gets buried otherwise.

I looked at the original site. No pictures. An amber alert is wasted in this age of instant communication when the best they can do is give descriptions that could be anybody.

According to the Washington Post school of journalism it is actually quite unhelpful to indicate the suspect is white with brown hair and eyes.
