Unfortunately, you can substitute America for Louisiana in this article to get the larger picture.

"........lazy bums of New Orleans to gobble up billions in FEMA money......"

Too bad that there aren't billions to gobble up. Even people here who had flood insurance through FEMA have been told that there is no money to pay out. Imagine having your house or business destroyed, and then finding out that the insurance you paid for over the years is not there for you. What do you do? By the way it's not just Louisiana, people in Mississippi are hearing the same thing. Gov.Haley Barbour asked FEMA if those Mississippi residents that didn't have flood insurance could pay 10 years of premiums retroactively in a lump sum. But FEMA can't even pay the claims that are already on the books.

Also, I would like to go on record to say that the people of New Orleans are not lazy bums. I invite anyone who thinks that, to come down here and look things over. You might have a change of heart.

The Salvation Army continues to be the only charity that I contribute to.

After reading, your rant well fits several other states.

Too bad the news hasn't been honest in reporting the good things happening in the recovery efforts all along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. I visited with family from the NOLA area over Thanksgiving and they said that NOLA is nowhere near dead. The one's that returned to rebuild the city are tough folks. They have a long history of having to depend on themselves to survive down here. After all they have been there nearly 300 years. Of course showing resourceful independent people doesn't fit their agenda.

The people of Louisiana need to help themselves before any real and long term help will even be considered.

The politicians and public officils with their hands in the kitty need to have their hands... Well, you get the idea...

I havent givin money to charity since 9/11. After the families were still bitching about money after they got their two million, I decided to stop giving. Do I think the people of New York would send money if my community in Nebraska were destroyed by a tornado, No. Do I think the people of New Orleans would send money, hell no. Maybe if something happens in flyover country ill donate again, but never again to ingrates.

You just described why Socialism/Communism does not and cannot work! Good job.

Americans, including you, gladly give to those truly in need who recognize and are appreciative of the charity of others.

And I am truly grateful for the aid which has came, mostly from individuals, churches and non-profits.

But the IRAQ and AFGANISTAN sized federal and international aid is nowhere to be seen.

Did you know NATO sent people into Louisiana during the Katrina response?

I think given the failure of the FEDERALLY built levees which caused most of the damage in Louisiana, that the Fed needs to step up to the plate better than they have

" Do I think the people of New York would send money if my community in Nebraska were destroyed by a tornado, No."

You may be a little fast in that assessment Husker24. The people of Western NY (cannot speak to the people of NYC), for all their faults, are known for giving to those in need. Nebraska is not know as a bunch of corrupt winers. Yes you may live in a high risk area but that could be said about many places in the USA.

However, using taxpayers money to build walls to allow them to live below sea level is not the same thing, especially when they then complain that we have not given enough, we blew up the walls because they were black.... etc. Not one penny will ever be willfully given, by me, to the people of N.O.. They can KMA.

Thanks, I wish you could take a drive through the neighborhoods where many innocent and giving people had lived.
I wonder if you saw and smelled it firsthand if you would still feel that way?

Did you know that about half the natural gas and industrial petrochemicals consumed in the US is either made or passes through Louisiana?

Thanks for the offer Liberty911 but no thanks, I'll pass.

The corruption and welfare mentality of N.O. and LA do not occur in a vacuum. It was tolerated for years and I will not be told by the "head of the United Way" that this is just an example of how bad the poor are treated in the USA. I know you did not say that but the message from the politicians in LA and the media said the same thing just in different words.

The people of N.O. and LA do not deserve ANY more money taken from me by force by the federal government. I did however, send money to Mississippi. They did not piss and moan and blame the evil white man for their troubles.

That could and should be changed. It is too dangerous a location for such strategic materials to be brought into this country. An area that could hold up better than N.O./LA might be a better choice. Granted it is hard to protect anything against a Cat 5 hurricane and white people blowing up levies.

Yeah right, these dirty, stick-together-and-cover-it-up-at-all-costs parasitic politicians and related species we have here in Louisiana would never do such a thing to their partners in crime.

We have a real-life political mafia here. operating under color of law and authority of some really intellectually challenged constituents.

Too bad the nation (like Freepers) couldn't band together and help us, and make Louisiana an example of PEOPLE cleaning up a dirty and corrupted cesspool like Louisiana. We could sure use some outside help down here and it could be a model and warnign to others who breach the public trust.

We could call it "Project Liberate Louisiana"

If the people of the nation could help in a project to clean up Louisiana, it would no doubt show our reservation and resolve regarding cleaning up our country and keeping the United States of America from splintering as history undoubtedly tells us is inevitable.

What's the matter? Do you think it might affect your opinion of the situation regarding providing relief for the reconstruction efforts? I have *little* doubt it would given the state of one of our countries largest and strategically important assets and resources.
