NEW YORK If Shakespeares plays had gotten ratings in the 16th and 17th centuries, some might have been too sexually daring or violent to be labeled PG-13 or even R.
But back then, bans and tossed tomatoes were about the only way audiences and leaders could show their disapproval of explicit scenes and risqué plots.
With a modern-day Shakespearian doomed-love tragedy called "Brokeback Mountain" opening this weekend, the debate over this country's ratings system handled by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has once again bubbled over like the witches cauldron in Macbeth.
The much-blogged-about, critically acclaimed Ang Lee film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger is rated R. But its storyline of two male ranch hands who fall for each other in the early 60s and keep their relationship a secret has led some to wonder why the movie didnt get an NC-17.
I think the only reason it got an R is because Ang Lee directed it, said film critic Anderson Jones, referring to the clout of the director behind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Ice Storm and Hulk. I dont believe it deserved an NC-17 rating, but Im surprised it didnt get one considering the storyline.

And I thought it was funny when Grandpa was in an O.C. chat room trying to catch up on an episode he missed.
Hee-Hee! About the only "Boondocks" cartoon series I've actually found funny! Can't wait to see tomorrow's!
This movie will lose money, but will be nominated for every award there is.
I knew Aaron McGruder had a sense of humor! He can be really funny when he's not on an "In your face/Black power" diatribe.
In fact, his TV show version of The Boondocks has managed to avoid politics through 4 episodes already.
Between anti-American and gay agenda movies and tv programs being hyped by show biz wierdos there isn't much left for me to see.
Oh, give me a break! This trash is more Truman Capote than Shakespeare.
"Nut n' Honey."
"isn't much left for me to see."

they are running on empty- more sex, more dirty language, more self hate, no creative fire..they fell off the planet but are too stupid to notice.
Let this be the first time in my life I've ever said that Aaron McGruder wrote something funny.
Knowing what I know now, it's pretty dang funny.

This trailer cracked me up.
Yeah. These guys are going to be real popular in Wyoming and Texas. Suggest they do movie promos at rodeos.
It is actually a trilogy. The third movie is called "Climax." Ends with their wives being infected by AIDS.
Mainstreaming mental illness.
Bush-hating "cartoonist" Aaron McGruder is a fudge-packing rump-wrangler,
so he should be in tune with this latest Hollyweird product.
haha... I read that as Rancharound the first time.
This film rated BS.
I'm looking forward to seeing this film. Don't know when it's going to be released in the UK though.
