Tony Blankley, editorial-page editor of The Washington Times, describes the present danger posed by militant Islam and what must be done to counter it in his new book, "The West's Last Chance: Will We Win the Clash of Civilizations?" (Regnery Publishing)
First of three parts
The threat of the radical Islamists taking over Europe is every bit as great to the United States as was the threat of the Nazis taking over Europe in the 1940s.
We cannot afford to lose Europe. We cannot afford to see Europe transformed into a launching pad for Islamist jihad.
While we in the United States and Europe have vast resources for protecting ourselves, we have thought ourselves into a position of near impotence.
Beyond the growing number of Muslims committed to terrorism is the threat from the Islamic diaspora's growing cultural and religious assertiveness -- particularly in largely secular Europe, where Muslim cultural assimilation has not occurred. It is beginning to dawn on Europeans that the combination of a shrinking ethnic-European population and an expanding, culturally assertive Muslim population might lead to the fall of Western civilization in Europe within a century.
This phenomenon, called Eurabia, is viewed with growing fatalism both in Europe and in America. Such fatalism, however, is premature.
Last November, an Islamist terrorist's butchering of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who had made a movie revealing abuse of Muslim women, aroused deep fears in Holland and across the Continent. \ The public anger, which included the burning of mosques in traditionally tolerant Holland, is evidence that the European instinct for survival has not been fully extinguished.
But that survival instinct is threatened by the multiculturalism and political correctness advocated in media and academe -- and institutionalized in national and European Union laws and regulations for half a century.

This is about as direct a way of putting it as I have ever seen.
It's called "Paralysis by analysis". - tom
A lot of Freepers seem to think that if Europe goes under, they deserve it. But tiresome as it is for America to keep on rescuing Europe, at great cost in blood or money, the alternative would seem to be worse.
I don't see how we can save Europe if they don't want to be saved. But I also don't see how we can afford to see all that wealth and knowledge, manufacturing capability and nuclear weapons, go into Muslim hands.
Without Europe, America would be pretty isolated. And with Europe in Arab hands, we would really be in trouble. No doubt over the long run the Muslims would destroy Europe's industrial and educational base and revert back to barbarism, as they have almost everywhere else. But in the meantime? Former Arab civilizations used Christian slaves for their armies and their manufactories, and they could do it again, for a while at least.
With all due respect, radical Islam is a far greater threat than the Nazis ever were (and, pigs that they were, they almost won). What they lack at this point is a unifying leader. Osama, hiding in a cave, might appeal to the spirit but fails in the leadership category. Zarkawi is too busy watch his rear in Iraq to devote enough time to leadership. Iran is Shiite. Bakar is in jail in Indonesia. What does the future hold?
Where is a Charles Martel?
Exactly but the MSM is playing it down for some retarded reason.
The problem is that the majority of Americans just can't believe that these terrorists want to kill every one of us.

True.
"I don't see how we can save Europe if they don't want to be saved. But I also don't see how we can afford to see all that wealth and knowledge, manufacturing capability and nuclear weapons, go into Muslim hands."
Especially true, yet how do we prevent it?

I respectfully disagree. By the time Eurabia occurs, we'll either be flat-out owned by the ChiComms or be such close economic partners that our godless allies will gladly aid in the conquering of the Islime, who don't buy near enough crap from WalMart and are far too ass-backward religious to curry favor from secular Communism. Those allies would probably just occupy the Arabian peninsula and destroy Mecca without worrying about 'sacrilege' and 'blasphemy' and other limiting words.
I am getting a little optimistic about more people realizing Islam is about converting, or killing or subjugating non-believers.
What amazes me, is the dumb Jews in Israel, who haven't grasped that yet. They continue to operate like they are going to be able to talk their way into a peaceful settlement of their problems with the Muslims. Year after year after year.
They should think Muslim everytime they hear or use the word Palestinian.
In this country another attack will pretty much get the message across to us Americans. - Tom
A long read but an excellent read.
It surprises me that this can actually appear in a newspaper.
Europe is lost. Demography is destiny. Aged Euro pensioners are not going to hobble down to the barricades to battle millions of young Muslim men.
Couldn't have said it better myself. A couple more 9-11's may bring them around.
Lets pray that people eventually "get it"!
My husband and I had a great discussion about this with a soldier who is Muslim this evening. He repeated several times that pulling away from the battle is not going to make it go away. Radical Islam thinks long term.
The MSM supports anything that undermines the U.S. And they call it tolerance. That is because they are tolerant of anything that undermines good.
