Fallaciously worded poll. Still, I voted Yes, and it's up to 38% Yes.

Seeing how there is a man that I trust in the Whitehouse to do the right thing, YES, I fully support his decision.

Had it been Carter, Clinton, Gore or Kerry in the Whitehouse making this decision I know I would feel different.

You don't have to be worried about this. Are you communicating overseas with al queda suspects that the cia is monitoring in countries like pakistan.

FISA court would be unconstitutional according to you to then if you don't want your rights taken away from you.

Clinton did domestic to domestic spying different than from sources originating overseas to the u.s

Their is no domestic to domestic spying here. No one's rights are taken away from them.

CIA has to act in real time they can't have to determine if their is an emergency with this suspect to make the determination with fisa. Who would decide that emergency. Is Bush supposed to order them to contact fisa everytime he thinks their is an emergency.

The whole war on terror should be stopped because the media will just leak it out into the media anyway. So tired of hearing about this war in our liberal newspapers. Just withdraw all the troops stop all the anti terrorist measures.

But when we get attacked don't have the nerve to scream at Bush.

Patriot act is over, no more aggressive interrogations.

Just withdraw from the middle east already because we will never hear the end of it in the press. Stop all the wiretaps.

If a terrorist is on the hunt in the u.s you will have no way of tracking him in a city without the patriot act.

If people don't care about terrorist attacks then stop all the anti terrorist measures and let the terrorists have all their rights and freedoms to hit us.

I agree with it.
1. The whole thing is blown out of proportion by the media.
2. The White House does not have a conspiracy to listen in on average Americans.
3. I don't work for the CIA or FBI so I don't know who or what they were listening to, so therefore I cannot make a judgment.
4. We can't say "Will all the bad guys please stand up?"
5. We are at war.
6. If a tapped phone line prevents my daughter from being blown up as she walks through the mall, I'm all for it.
7. My president said it was OK. That's enough for me.

I cant believe some of you people are taking the NYT story at face value. The President has and should always have these powers, especially in a time of war. The lefties in this country want to weaken the office of the Presidency, to bring us to a parliamentary socialist system.

I think some of you people have your head up your a$$.

As far as I am concerned if your phone number comes up on an aQ cell phone in Afghanistan, you have allot of explaining to do American citizen or not.

Is it in violation of the United States Constitution? Does the President have unlimited powers in times of war? For how long? Does Congress know about this? To what extent is it being used? I don't feel violated, but I wouldn't feel violated if they conducted door to door searches in Washington DC either.

I'm not Congress, I like to know the specifics prior to casting a vote.

Though you wouldn't know it from FR, believing that the Federal government is constrained by the provisions of the Constitution - and should be - is not a 'liberal' idea.

Doesn't the constitution give the president the power to protect the u.s.

How is tracking foreign muslum al queda terrorists calls overseas hurting your rights.

Only people that are really worried about this are jihadist muslums in our own country.

This has stopped numerous attacks. How in the world are you supposed to stop attacks if you can't track their calls in real time.

The liberals screaming about this are also screaming about bush for 9/11. These wiretaps would have stopped 9/11 but the muslum community would have screamed about terrorists losing their rights.

Clinton had FBI files to go after his enemies. Clinton spied domestic to domestic phone calls.

If you aren't going to allow the president to take action to defend the country in the constitution then you shouldn't have a president.

If people are so paranoid about this then stop all anti terrorist measures and then the terrorists can have all their rights back.

I am for either taking a hard line with these terrorists or stopping this war on terror completely. Their is no gray line here. Either you go after them with full force or you draw down and let attacks happen in the name of rights.

ECHELON: America's Secret Global Surveillance Network

I added other links, such as Carnivore and Cointelpro to the list in post #30 on that link. As I said there:

Decades worth of citizen surveillance...but now all of a sudden, the left is "outraged" and the far right fringe is screaming about about "jack booted thugs". {Sigh...}

Agreed. And it would be a simple matter for the government to get a warrant to monitor any communications you make over your telephone.
