I'm sure there were plenty of girls at the prom that were close to naked. I can't imagine why a kilt would need to be banned.

If he claimed to be 'transgendered,' he could come to class in a ball gown.

The principal's name is McClard. Ironic, isn't it.

I've worn a kilt many times, as a proud Kiwi of Scots heritage. Indeed, I wear one regularly. And anyone who has a problem with that can have a few fives, on the house. Ban the kilt??? I'd like to see 'em try.

The kid is a geek. The kilt look like sh!t. No socks. Any true Scot would beat him up on sight. What a jerk.

LOL! An expression that I hadn't heard before. I think I know what it means. :-)

How he looked isn't the point. Had the principal said "he's not dressed formal enough, or neat enough", that would be understandable. Require him to be more formal (though I doubt he would have been the "worst dressed" anyway). No, it's the fact that the principal considers someone dressed in a kilt to look like a CLOWN! That's my hertitage, and I'll be damned if I'll let someone walk all over it. Had this been some traditional South American, or African garb, there would be large scale public outcry already....

Hoot, mon! If I got on a public bus with a golly-wonking boom box playing the 'pipes, do you think I'd be asked to turn them down? Probably. Cultural insensitivity, indeed!

And if a national dress (not American) is allowed, what would stop a person of South American Indian from wearing nothing but died red hair?

From the CNN story, his parents helped him assemble the original outfit. Seems he wasn't trying to be entirely ridiculous about it as he did get the vice principle's permission which was OK'd so long as he wore something underneath it (if you read the article). The principle hadn't see the kilt.

Nice try. Public indecency laws prevent wearing just dyed hair. Is there something indecent about a kilt???

Kidding aside, a dress kilt is considered formalwear just about anwhere Scotts congregate. I've seen them at formal Marine Corps. functions.

Woe be unto the pencil necked administrator who attempts to ban the kilt! May end up koshed in the head, abed!

Merry Christmas to all!

And while they weren't trying to dress in kilts, a few boys were allowed to wear skirts to class at Franklin Community High School in Indiana in 1997, when a superintendent said different people express themselves in different ways.
