Well, I'm not surprised. BTW, I was one of those 31% who voted for his Democrat opponent in 1998, John Jay Hooker. Hooker, shockingly, ran as a Conservative (and was bitterly opposed by the 'Rat party after he got the nomination), to the right of Scummy. I knew something had gone wrong with Scummy (whom I did vote for in '94) when just prior to the '98 campaign, he started to climb into bed with the 'Rat sleaze in the state, especially my crooked convicted felon ex-Nashville Sheriff, Fate Thomas. I never regretted my vote for Hooker, but I sure regretted my vote for Scummy (not to say I would've voted for my ex-Mayor, Pharoah Phil, HELL no !, but I would've voted 3rd party).
Poor John Jay LOL. Chicken John is a political nick name derived from a failed fried chicken chain he ran. Seriously I remember as a kid in the mid 1960's hearing endless Hooker for governor campaign commericals. Yea Hooker was the Dems wall flower. The Dems did not by any means want a win that year.
