On January 4, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. (PST) the Rose Bowl Game will host the BCS National Championship, between USC and Texas once again showcasing the best of collegiate football in "The Granddaddy of Them All."® The Rose Bowl will be broadcast exclusively on ABC and on ESPN radio.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Quarterback Vince Young capped a dazzling performance with a touchdown with 19 seconds to play to rally the Texas Longhorns to an 41-38 upset win over the USC Trojans at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday.
The stunning loss was the first in over two years by the top-ranked University of Southern California, crushing their bid for an historic third consecutive national championship.
"We had plenty of chances to win," said USC coach Pete Carroll. "It's been wonderful doing what we've been doing, it's too bad it had to end. We just couldn't get it done."
Young, runner-up to USC running back Reggie Bush in the Heisman trophy balloting, might have given voters second thoughts on a night that he almost single-handedly denied the Trojans their place in the college football record books.
The elusive Texas quarterback ran for 200 yards for three touchdowns and completed 30 out of 40 pass attempts for another 267 yards, earning offensive player of the year honors and praise from team mates and opponents.
While the Longhorns and their thousands of orange-clad supporters celebrated, the Trojans were left to absorb the shock loss of a game they had been leading 38-26 with less than seven minutes to play.
It was a particularly devastating defeat for Trojans' quarterback Matt Leinart who had spurned the NFL and millions of dollars to return to USC for one final season to chase history.
Instead it was Young who wrote the headlines, scoring the two decisive touchdowns, the biggest of his career coming with just 19 seconds to play.
Fourth down on the USC eight and time running out, Young sent a shudder through the 93,986 fans crammed into every corner of the Rose Bowl when he raced around the right end into the endzone for the game-winning score.
Minutes earlier, Young had put his team in position for the victory when he capped off a 69-yard drive with a 17-yard run to trim the deficit to 38-33.
In the buildup to the Rose Bowl, the game had been hyped as perhaps the greatest college football game of all time and, after an uneven opening half, managed to live up to expectations with the two teams combining for more than 1,000 yards of offence.
After this game, he has to come out.
There's nothing else he can do.
He probably had the greatest game in college football history.
I think he'll go top 3.

Who would you rather have as your running back?
Reggie Bush or Vince Young.
I would take Vince Young.
He's 6 5 - 233.
USC couldn't tackle him.
I would make Vince a running back.
I though that to at first, but he is to tall to be a running back. 6'5". He would be better as a tightend or reciever.
Fowler had been saying all day that Texas would win. Corso also predicted Texas pre-game.
Steven Jackson is probably the tallest RB I know of in the NFL right now and he is 6'2" 231#
Final rankings are out. Idiots in both polls put Auburn ahead of Wisconsin, despite Wisconsin soundly defeating them 24-10 2 days ago and having the same records. AP also continued to vastly overrate Notre Dame.

Went to a friend's house to watch the game. Talk about a game that lived up to it's hype.

Like so many of us said...they don't play defense in the PAC-10. (although Texas played defense like they were in the PAC-10).
Actually, this year's USC was the BEST of the last three, but this year they didn't luck up and draw an Oklahoma team that got stomped in their own conference title game (two years ago).
Last year, USC won the title, and left no doubt that they deserved it by stomping an unbeaten Oklahoma.

The AP championship is bogus. All the colleges agreed that the BCS Championsship is the one and only recognized College Football National Championship. The AP championship has as much validty as Joe Blow's Bar and Grill National Championship. Get over it.
Vince is not only very tall, he is also an inspirational/great leader, decision maker and acceptable passer.
Vince Young made his bacon as a Quarterback. From High School all the way. It is fantasy to think that Vince would settle for being a tight end or receiver, or that a team would have the nerve to draft him number 1,2 or 3 and then say, oh, but you'll be a receiver. Will not happen.
So, Michael Vick gets to be a Quarterback, but Vince Young goes to receiver????????????
