Mr Robertson is an influential figure in US politics Israel is pulling out of a $50 million deal with US TV evangelist Pat Robertson after he said Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution. Tourism Ministry spokesman Ido Hartuv said Israel would not sign a contract with Mr Robertson to build a biblical theme park by the Sea of Galilee.

Mr Robertson suggested on his popular TV show the stroke was a punishment for Israel's withdrawal from Gaza.

His remarks were condemned by the US government and American Jewish groups.

Mr Robertson was leading a group of evangelical Christians hoping to build the Galilee World Heritage Park.

I am not making a judgement one way or the other...I don't know if it was God's retribution or not, and neither does anybody else. Everyone is guessing here about the mind of God......I-DON'T-KNOW.

Mmmmhmmmm. Well, Robertson was being quite impolitic in saying what he said about Sharon. He is free to hold his own opinion, but it's not always wise to say everything you think or feel to be true (uh-oh, I'm not turning into Machiavelli here, am I?) Robertson, IMVHO, has done a lot of good for the Christian conservative community, but this recent spate of off-the-wall statements are making the Christian conservatives look really, really bad.

Perhaps he should be a bit more careful about his timing.
