Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?
That guy is a lot less dumber than his fellow DUmmies.
I still haven't forgotten Miguel Estrada and the merciless beating he took. I think he's a fine judge, and W doesn't forget. Chances are W will continue to be bold in his SOTU nominees, and I think he'll have at least one more.

May the wickedness of evil men roll back upon themselves; may they not prosper; may they be soon scattered as chaff in the wind, in Jesus' Name, amen.
I suspect that will be overturned.
And McCrazy will be crankypants about it!

It's a photo of Samuel Alito, as a 4 year old. His mother was showing it to reporters, as she reminded them, "Of course he's against abortion!"
Miers wasn't a disaster, she was bait and a feint. Think about it this way:
Miers is unqualified for service in the Supreme Court; Bush asks her if she'd be willing to be nominated and serve as bait for the Dems, knowing that she wouldn't possibly be confirmed. She agrees.
The nomination is made; Dems show their true obstructionist colors and expend enormous amounts of political and financial capital to try to stop Miers being ramrodded through the Senate.
Bush pulls the rug out from under them by announcing the (planned from day one) withdrawal of Miers, followed by naming the *real* nominee, Alito.
This leaves the Dems with little capital *or* general support among the populace to obstruct the Alito confirmation process *and* weakens them further.
Don't *ever* play poker with President Bush. The Dems still haven't learned this; pray that they never do.
This should work, he's lost it.

Kennedy of Massachusetts who, at 67, was decades older than most of the other legal counsels on the Judiciary Committee staff. Mr. Flug first worked for Mr. Kennedy 35 years ago when they led a liberal minority of senators to block the Supreme Court nominations of Judges G. Harrold Carswell and Clement F. Haynsworth Jr., in both cases by mobilizing a coalition of civil rights groups and unearthing embarrassing aspects of the nominees' records.
Among other things, several Democratic aides said, Mr. Flug drove the investigation into Judge Alito's failure to recuse himself, as he had pledged to do during his court of appeals confirmation hearing, from cases involving his mutual fund company, Vanguard. But Mr. Flug met with polite skepticism from many of his colleagues.
"You are going to ask more questions about that oversight where Alito made no money?" a staff member for another Democratic senator said he asked Mr. Flug.
"It became clear to us early on," the staff member added, "that the guy may be way too far right for our tastes, but we think the guy is a man of honor."

Well, I was fortunate in that God allowed me to miscarry naturally, and I didn't have to deal with abortion like my doctors wanted...sorry you had to go through that when you were young, and I'm glad you kept your baby. My 18 y/o niece is in the same situation, but fortunately my brother and his wife are decent people and are supporting her the best way they can...

The remaining dems on the USSC will remain there till their dying breath if a republican is in office.
