Reuters Additional Information

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Tuesday, shortly before President Bush was to give his annual State of the Union speech, a police spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman, Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, said she had no immediate details.

Sheehan had been invited to be a guest at the address to a joint session of Congress by U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a California Democrat.

Sheehan, who became a central figure for the U.S. anti-war movement after her soldier son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, won wide attention with an anti-war vigil outside Bush's Texas ranch.

CNN said Sheehan was arrested after unveiling a banner and was being held on Capitol Hill for about an hour, which would keep her away from the address, which was set to start at 9 p.m. EST.

Sheehan and other activists were arrested in September for protesting outside the White House without a permit, a misdemeanor that carriers a $50 fine.

They should wrap that banner around her neck and take her out and string her up with it.

I was listening to the clips of her that Hugh Hewitt was running, and yeah, she sounds like maybe a college-age kid at best. I knew she was kind of a dingbat, but not that much.

from Drudge. WTF? WHY???
Cindy Sheehan Plans To Be In Audience At Bush Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Cindy Sheehan said she will be part of the live audience during the president's State of the Union speech to congress Tuesday.

Bay Area Congresswoman Lynn Woosley gave anti-war activist a gallery pass late Tuesday, just hours before the planned State of the Union speech. Sheehan was in Washington to protest the president during his national address, but then came word she was invited to see the speech live.
A spokesman for Sheehan says she decided to accept the invitation two hours prior to the speech. The spokesman also said that Sheehan will be respectful and listen to the address because she is a guest of a member of congress.

Sheehan is expected to fly back to Berkeley Wednesday. She announced over the weekend that she is considering running for Senate against Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

My bet is on Henry Waxman, Sheila Jackson Lee or Cynthia McKinney.

I'm pretty sure McKinney is no long in congress.

FOX just reported that she tried to unfurl a banner of some sort. She has been taken away in cuffs and detained.

She couldn't help herself, as many here on FR suspected.

Glad she was hauled away.

Fox just said she was trying to carry in some sort of banner.
So much for her spokeswoman's statement she'd behave as she was a guest of a member of congress.

In a perverted sort of way, I'm sorry she was arrested before the President began his address.

The stunt that she was contemplating would have played well to the DUmmies and certain other factions on the left, but I think most Americans would have been absolutely disgusted by it.

What better way to follow up Kennedy's collapse than that ugly hag disrupting the SOTU?
