Reuters Additional Information

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Tuesday, shortly before President Bush was to give his annual State of the Union speech, a police spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman, Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, said she had no immediate details.

Sheehan had been invited to be a guest at the address to a joint session of Congress by U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a California Democrat.

Sheehan, who became a central figure for the U.S. anti-war movement after her soldier son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, won wide attention with an anti-war vigil outside Bush's Texas ranch.

CNN said Sheehan was arrested after unveiling a banner and was being held on Capitol Hill for about an hour, which would keep her away from the address, which was set to start at 9 p.m. EST.

Sheehan and other activists were arrested in September for protesting outside the White House without a permit, a misdemeanor that carriers a $50 fine.

Was she giggling like a schoolgirl again at the thought of the country seeing her bloomers?

Maybe she was asked to do something and ended up having a blue with the cops?

She was already in the house chamber when it happened. She unfolded a banner when the police arrested her.

CNN now saying Cap Hill Police arrested IN the chamber and SEATED and unfolded a freakin banner - AGAINST HOUSE RULES. Being held for questioning...probably about an hour...about as long as Bush's speech. LOL

YES! Arrested inside the chamber. CNN reporting she unfurled an anti-war banner and capitol police then took her out.

“In this century, we have to bury the empire, and may there never again be empires in the world.” He spoke with his arms wrapped around the shoulders of visiting American peace activist Cindy Sheehan,

good.

"inside the chamber?"

Yes! She was in her seat and rolled out a large anti-war banner which is against house rules and she was arrested.

Brought an anti-war banner into the House chamber which is a no-no. Capitol Police said they'll question her for an hour or two and then release her. After the speech, conveniently.

I wish they'd just exile her to South America. Let her go to seed with the old escaped Nazis.

CNN indicated that Democrat Congressional leaders were not happy that a Democratic Congress member invited her.

She's ugly, stupid, and disgraceful. The Democrats are distancing themselves from her.

Maybe she should move to Venezuela and run for dog catcher there. Interestingly, I think the media is tiring of her.
