I am curious as to why.

This immigration/terrorism vote really bothers me.

Bainer, not Boner.

Time will tell.

I wonder how he did in school. He probably had to punch a few faces of guys calling him 'boner'. Probably came in handy in politics, too.

No, it is the Gang of Seven that was active during the clinton presidency. They were Republicans that brought some of the democratic scandals to the public's attention

"John Boehner is not opposed to an employment eligibility verification system; he supports establishing such a system in a manner that works and doesn't spark a backlash the Republican majority cannot afford."

If true, that would bring him the support of conservatives.

But not if the ultimate system Boehner will support is one which lets employers entirely off the hook for verification and imposes no fines (or very light fines) or other sanctions for knowingly hiring illegal aliens. That won't fly.

"See Boehner own quote about extending an OLIVE BRANCH"..

Great. More "compassionate conservatism" and "new tone in Washington".

Perhaps he intends to kiss the Rats to death.

"Tell the full story. There is a six year amnesty before any penalties are enforced."

Unacceptable.

Just a note, that "olive branch" quote was from The Hill newspaper -- and it didn't have quotes around it, so it may just be a reporter's slant.

LOL. Uh - maybe you've forgotten that George W. Bush spent a LITTLE time in between being CIA Director, representative and VICE PRESIDENT before winning the office of president. Just a little detail you omitted there.

I realize I may be a little late getting in here, but what is the big fuss about Boehner? Those who were for Blunt/DeLay have to wake up to reality. The man would have been BURIED by the media from Day 1 and it would have cost the GOP seats in November. It's too easy of a case to make and the media was ready to pounce, rolling his election as leader into the larger "corruption" theme the Dims want to use this fall. The Congressman from Arizona, pretty clearly, wasn't ready for the prime time and it showed. He entered late, few knew who he even was, and he never gained any "real" momentum (unless 191 of his colleagues voting for someone besides him qualifies as momentum). He did keep Blunt from winning, though, which I see as a major positive. As I see it, Boehner was the only real choice we had to get a leader who could be effective. He won't be easily scandalized by the media (although they'll certainly try) and he has the necessary stature for the job, having been in leadership before, chaired a major committee, and made a name for himself as part of the Gang of Seven. The idealogical purists out there who want to call him a RINO should save their breath. He was chosen as leader whether you like it or not and it was the right move, given the available candidates.
