Charlie Daniels: Time to shut down on illegal immigrants
The Sidney Herald ^ | Wednesday February 8, 2006 | Charlie Daniels

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use.

It seems that the U.S.A. has a history of waiting until the horse is gone before securing the proverbial barn door. In some cases it´s simply expensive or inconvenient, but in some cases it is downright dangerous.

Although few on the left are willing to admit, it´s pretty well known that Bill Clinton had at least three chances to take bin Ladin into custody and refused. We all know that we brought Saddam to his knees during the first Gulf War and sailed away without finishing the job, necessitating the second Gulf War.

We all know that our Congress usually takes so long in passing meaningful legislation that by the time it becomes law it is, many times, toothless and obsolete.

But one of the most dangerous things happening in our nation right now is the situation at our southern borders. Everyday illegals cross the international border of Mexico with impunity. Our cities are inundated with unpapered, non-English speaking aliens.

I have no problem with honest people coming to this country seeking a better life for them and their families, but when they come in illegally I am dead set against it. We don´t even know they´re here and we have no way of knowing what kind of people they are.

Are they Islamic sympathizers bent on destroying us and our way of life? Are they violent gang members who hire out to do murder and mayhem? Are they drug traffickers, fugitives from the law, disease carriers or political malcontents?

The fact is that when they simply walk across our borders we have no way of knowing who or what they are. Is this not insanity?

It has been proven that most politicians have not got the guts to deal with the situation. It´s not a Democratic or Republican thing, nor a left or right thing, it´s simply a political hot potato that will continue to grow bigger and hotter until it eventually explodes in one way or another.

These illegals are straining the budgets of every border state and now some politicians want to give them what´s tantamount to having undocumented American citizenship, allowing them to participate in social programs and entitlements.

There is no way that this situation is ever going to resolve itself. This is a festering sore that becomes bigger and more infected every passing day and, at sometime in the future, will manifest itself in some catastrophic result in this nation. Whether it comes in the form of a nuclear attack or some contagious, out-of-control disease, when it hits I hope that people in this nation will remember how our state and federal politicians left us vulnerable and defenseless, all in the cause of trying to buy themselves a few more votes.

In my book they´re all culpable - the president, Congress, Senate, governors and legislatures. It´s way past time to shut the barn door.

Well again you're having trouble telling the difference between reality and entertainment. Charlie Daniels is a patriotic American and because you don't like what he's saying you dwell on a song that is basically a self-parody. It really does show your desperation.

You seem to believe your own BS, like chuckie schumer, that you are straddling the fence and in the middle of the political road.

The only one spewing BS on this thread is you.

First, you say that Daniels should be supporting the supposedly 'conservative' Kyl/Cornyn immigration proposal.

But, when I and other start asking about the lack of enforcement provisions, you go screwball and start ranting about a 1972 Charlie Daniels song.

Not desperation. Diversion.

He opened a can of worms by mentioning the Kyl/Cornyn bill and he's trying to turn the discussion away from that topic and the only way he knows to do that is to go non-sequitor.

It looks like we'll be waiting a long time for Dane to tell us when all these illegals he wants to give guest worker/amnesty status to will be going home, or better yet who's going to make them?

Somehow, I doubt Bush's or Kyl's or Cornyn's response will be any different.

You bet, the silence is deafening.

What's funny about Pittsburgh radio stations is that there isn't a single one broadcasting full-time in Spanish, according to these two URLs:

http://www.pbrtv.com/pbrtvfm.html
http://www.pbrtv.com/pbrtvam.html

In fact I can't find any that broadcast in Spanish even part-time.

Draw what conclusions you will about the demographics of the Pittsburgh metro area, and the knowledge that someone living in an area with such demographics would actually have about anything related to illegal aliens.

It's typical for many of those who advocate for illegal aliens to have few that actually live in their own communities or even states. And it also probably explains why so many of them see it as a non-issue.

"Kyl/Cornyn is out of sight, out of mind, when it should not be. "

Yes, such a good piece of legislation. Not!

They expect criminal border crossers will submit to a background check, rather then cross a still unguarded border.

That's one problem I have with it. Yes, I have already addressed my Senator John Cornyn about this.

The fact is Kyl/Cornyn tries to bring some sanity to a broken system, and is much better than the mccain/kennedy bill.

Try this for sanity. Enforce curent laws, it is the responsibility of the President to do just that, and he chooses not to.

The oath to be taken by the president on first entering office is specified in Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Kinda of interesting that Charlie Daniels got his career stareted by trashing the South with hollyweird steroetypes.

Interesting that the person who is so upset about what Charlie Daniels wrote 34 years ago was stereotyping Americans citizens as chain smoking drunkards on welfare just a few short months ago when you were supporting illegal aliens. Every time there is a thread about an American citizen being raped or murdered by an illegal alien we can count on you to root for the illegal alien. Americans are being impacted right now by your illegal aliens, not by lyrics from three decades ago.

Enforce curent laws...

What a radical concept that is, at least for some of us here.
