I'm not Catholic so I do not recognize giving up anything for Lent - But if I was, I just had a vasectomy last Friday, giving into months of pleading from the Wife, so does giving up your gene pool count?

Can I give up my mother-in-law?
Well, just thought I would ask anyway.

I heard a priest caution about giving up some things for Lent. For example, if I give up drinking, then Easter means I can drink. If I give up gambling, then Easter means a trip to the dog track.

I'm Baptist, we don't give up anything.

Jews don't recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

Protestants don't recognize the Pope as their leader.

Baptists don't recognize each other in the liquor store. :-)

(Before you attack me, I'm Baptist too.)

Nah, some Anglicans and Lutherans do, too.

The key to doing Lent correctly is the idea that by depriving yourself of something you truly desire, one is reminded of, in a very small way, of what Christ gave up for us.

Too many people go through the motions, however, and miss the point --- thinking you're sacrificing for Christ or something.

I just invite two Baptists.

That way they can carry my cooler.

You know why you never invite just one Mormon to go fishing, right?

Get your own jokes. Heh heh.

I keep finding it in my trouser pockets, shirt pocket, even my suit pockets.

I'm giving up my laundry.

Do you have a scripture reference for the whole "giving up thinks for Lent" thing?
