The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has spoken: President Bush must be impeached. It's a political earthquake that is shaking the establishment across the country.
OK, maybe across San Francisco Bay, to Berkeley.
Some critics of the president applauded the latest attempt by San Francisco's governing board to wade into Washington's affairs. Others rolled their eyes.
"This should certainly force a special convening of Congress," San Francisco's Democratic Mayor, Gavin Newsom, said sarcastically. "I'm surprised the president himself didn't shorten his trip to India to deal with it."
San Francisco this week became the biggest of the scattered left-coast bastions to pass such measures; Others include Santa Cruz, to the south, and Arcata, far to the north.
The resolution continues a long tradition of mutual antipathy between Bush and San Francisco, a city he has never visited as president.
"San Francisco is a fabulous place, but most Americans don't take their political cues from the city by the bay," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt.
Some members of Congress - who actually have the power to impeach - were unaware of the vote days after it was taken. Others, like Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the liberal Democrat whose district includes much of San Francisco, urged the president's opponents to channel their anger into the 2006 congressional and 2008 presidential campaigns.

Everyone should visit San Francisco at least once. It's really a spectacular place.
Just take the normal precautions of not discussing politics, news, energy, or anything more cerebral than sports.

If the people are that damn "sensitive" and childish, forget it. There are lots of spectacular places on Planet Earth.
If they work really, really, hard, betcha they can elect Democrats from San Fran, Marin, and who knows, maybe even Oakland and Berkeley!

No, no. PLEASE let this movement resonate. Tie up all available liberal cycles for 2-3 more years. Then, before they know what hit 'em, President George Allen will be pitching with the 61 Senators.

One day it will be up to Asians, Indians, and Russians as to what the political makeup of the SF Peninsula will be. Once the old hippie 'Boomers start croaking, I predict a significant change in politics, particularly if the Asians and Russians have the greatest say in it. Take one look at who's filling the churches on the weekends and your answer is right there. Same thing goes for who the cops are around here.
The demographics ought to change faster than anyone thinks, too: The hippies forgot to have kids. The little Asian girl who spends her evenings next door playing viola and piano is probably Stanford-bound, judging by the rear window sticker on her dad's minivan. I can already tell she's probably got more smarts than any of the greying and spacey hippie-era people that still hang on to San Francisco.
Say what you want about this place, but if something happens to my health that's life-threateningly serious while I'm anywhere in the world, get me on a jet straight back to San Francisco and take me to Stanford University Medical Center's emergency room.
I have a friend who makes frequent trips to the bay and has a W sticker and a Green Bay Packer sticker on the back of his truck. Always fun.

As for the comment about President Bush having never visited San Francrisco, the City by the Bay could easily turn out to be to Bush, what Dallas was to JFK in '63.
Too many leftist America-haters and Bush-despisers in that area. President Bush is probably safer in Pakistan this week than he would be in SF at ANY time.
It's okay during the daytime. I've been there often.
Of course, I'm also 6'6".
