The problem is that most folks back in the good ole USA don't realize that the Arab population is diverse---and there are REGIONAL politics involved. Shiite Iran is just a stones throw away from the UAE. That is not a comforting feeling for the locals, especially with nukes on the way. The UAE favors Yankee business and goes out of it's way to give the BIG contracts to American businesses. But if they see that their strategic alliance with the USA is not on sound ground, they will look elsewhere for their security needs. BTW, the UAE is Sunni, but UAE Sunnis are NOT Saudi Sunnis. The point: even the religious sects are not monolithic. The folks back home (including our Republican Congress folk) have MUCH to learn about the politics in the Middle East.

If I were in the Bush Administration I would highly recommend ousting Scott McClellan from Press Secretary and instead go with a "pool of press reps" and have people like General Peter Pace, General Honore, Russ Limbaugh, VP Dick Cheney, and Rudy Guiliani each take the job 1 day per week. These are all great first responders to the idiot media we currently have and would enhance the administrations job tremendously!

Thanks, Prince. About two days into the hysteria over this, I started worrying about the collateral damage that the demagoging of this was going to do to important relationships that are critical to us if we are going to prevail in the long term.

I am entertaining feelings of violence toward Robert Reich. After I finish with him, I intend to take on George Will.

You forgot to mention that Kemp agreed with Him.

Kemp stated that poverty was caused by "racism"; but then added he was not accusing any SPECIFIC politician.

Kemp is just a RINO.

It puzzles me how dems. can get away with outrageous comments like this.

It is not puzzling...there is NO immediate, harsh rebuke or reaction by the "other side" to stop them.

Recall the near riot that broke out in the House on Nov. 18th when Rep. Schmidt simply made a statement of fact? She did not accuse anyone of anything, she simply made a statement and was nearly physically attacked for it. For their abominable behavior they were rewarded by having the comment struck from the record.

Remember the "White Flag" video ad of the demonRATS own voices and faces espousing their cut and run rhetoric? The demonRATS went on attack mode and what happened...the ad was pulled.

I could go on and on with instances like these. When the Republicans fight back they are attacked and then quickly surrender.

THAT is why the can get away with outrageous comments.

Your "2 men of integrity" comment may be prophetic. The thing going on now may be more about defining the battlefield for the upcoming November elections than real or valid complaints.

Katrina is a non issue, in truth, but Democrats are trying to save their hides on it. Same with port security and other issues that are supposedly going against President Bush & Co.

Even the poll manipulations are suspect and timing questionable. In fact, we should be gearing up now for what's coming from the Democrats non-stop from now until the election is over.

I would agree that he comported himself well in the interview.

His problem is/was that he disagreed with the structure of FEMA being subordinate to DHS and so he intentionally did end-runs around his obligation - that was to report to Chertoff. Like it or not, that was his role in the scheme of things. This he admits to. What he won't admit to is the results and effects of his insubordination. When he complains about the confusion and duplication of orders he fails to admit that he caused them!

For all of this, I agree with his admonition that came at the end of the interview. Wallace asks about the state of readiness of FEMA and Brown says that it is worse than before. He then urges people to insist that FEMA be detached from DHS - an idea that I wholeheartedly support.

Kemp is a mouth looking for a microphone. Edwards to me has always been a pimple with a little boy's haircut. And I always remember Edwards' first interview on MTP where he was a stumbling deer in the headlights pussy.

I also got the sense that the relationship between the two men, Brown and Chertoff, was simply poisonous.

Timmy's using the DNC points is a good thing. It gives Pace a chance to comment on every single issue.

Every one of Timmy's questions is prefaced with a premise that at worst is wrong or at best is nuanced with the DNC viewpoint. And the guests respond accordingly. The Democrats use them as a starting point to expand their criticisms of US policy, President Bush, or both. Republican's (usually RINO's or spotlight seekers) fail to challenge them adequately or just agree with a "yes, but...". "Neutral" guests such as General Pace will occasionally outsmart Tim by using the questions as a springboard to make very relevant points on issues not covered by the old media. But in the main, the show never lives up to its promise as a spot-on show that evenhandedly delves into events, policies, politics and people.

Actually, I agree with you. Brown was right, IMHO, but he was wrong in not following what he was told to do.

I too support FEMA being detached from DHS. Different mandate and FEMA needs the freedom to change or respond quicker than DHS is able to do.
