Weasley was busy trying to get our troops out of harms way when the Rwanda massacre was evident.

There was an aversion to intervention that would have saved lives.

Instead, as on the beach in Haiti, they cut and ran when threatened.

Cutting and running from Somalia became the precedent that was followed till the day slick willie left office.

Look for Qatar to be are next super-ally in the Middle East. The same Iran-phobia will be the motivating factor.

That's one way. If I add 5 % to the Republican side of any poll, plus the margin of error reported, I usually get a more accurate poll number. That's worked for years. With some earlier polls, or polls I think are really suspect, I'll add ten percent plus the margin of error.

I just hope that CONGRESS remembers that THEY are the ones the "built" the Department of Homeland Security, with the "help" of the 9/11 Commission...

Not exactly - Congress built it, yes, but surprisingly, NOT in reaction to the terrorist attack of 9/11/2001. See post 198 and its associated link. The attack of 9/11 made the construction an easy sell to the public, similar to the easy sell of federalizing airport security. "One must federalize in order to professionalize."

This country is definitely better off without W. Clarke on active duty.

Well said. They should be using the model of the last election until proven otherwise. Rather they give the dems who hate bush a 10-15 pt advantage.

Actually they should only poll Republicans since we are the ones in power if they really want to find out whats going on!

Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters

The Democrat position remains Talk the Talk but avoid Walking the Walk. Or, as Rush says, Symbolism over Substance.

doesn't the government first have to establish that the leak could be in violation of criminal statute, before they start asking whodunnit?

Do you have doubts that the existence of prisons in Europe and the NSA terrorist surveillence program were classifed?

Was it not you that originally posted the article on the "Whistle blower law"? Based on the info in that one, I thought National Security "whistle blowers" were allowed to talk to appropriate Congresspersons, NOT to people without the proper clearance. Talking to the Times about classified data instead of a Congressperson with the appropriated clearance is a crime.

I have seen the 30' wave. It's on video. Homemade. A camera that was secured to a utility pole. Many in NO are well aware of it. How high would the walls, levees, etc., etc., etc., (all those things that are described as 'breached') need to be to stop a 30' wave?

Anyone happen to catch that wolf blitzer of 'we want nothing to do with dubai, dubai wants nothing to do with cnn) is in fact in dubai. Can he possibly make the situation worse?

Also, seems he just dropped some information on Musharaff, that Musharaff was none to pleased with. Did anyone else hear? something that is going to cause a rift between Musharaff and karsai. Blitzer seemed quite pleased with himself.

I haven't investigated the prisons matter; but on the NSA matter, I have doubts that the NYT article constitutes a publication that can be prosecuted under the relevant statute.

That being said, there are no doubt classified aspects to the NSA terrorist surveillance program, publication of which WOULD be prosecutable. I haven't read Risen's book to see if it contains that sort of detail.

My reference to "Libby Rule" is meant to connote the notion (popular at FR) that since Plame wasn't (and probably can't) be proven to be covert under the statutory definition, Libby shouldn't have been questioned, and Miller shouldn't have been compelled to testify, jailed, etc.

Blitzer seemed to be suggesting to Musharraf that Musharraf knew where Mullah Omar was because of information from Karzai and wasn't doing any thing about it> Musharraf went of on Blitzer and Karzai. Apparently, the Paks helped with Karzai's election and have been providing him with intelligence that has now been leaked to the press (where have we heard of that before), and Musharraf is none to happy about it.

Thanks for sending me to #198...I haven't had a chance to go back a read the whole thread..

THAT is the best post for the history of the Homeland Security Department I have seen.

You are so right----and all this time, in my mind, DHS was a response to 9/11. Boy do I feel dumb.

Also, here some of us are, wanting FEMA removed from DHS, when it was originally suggested that FEMA WAS the DHS, under a different name....so ironic.

WHAT a great post,Cboldt. Thanks for all of that history.
