Winston Churchill on Islam
The River War | 1899 | Sir Winston Churchill

Posted on 03/07/2006 6:30:18 PM PST by southernnorthcarolina

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.

The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.

No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

-- Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 [London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899]).

I'm quite sure I've never posted a 107 year old excerpt on this forum....

The post deserves a 2 3/4 year BTTT.

About 30 years ago one of my mentors said to me: “To get a good liberal arts education read everything that Winston Churchill wrote”. I have made a start. I am planning to read his series on WWI.

Some years ago a set of his complete works was for sale.
Does anyone know if they are still available?

Amen to that brother.

That happened to me as well. Unfortunately, I have not
read Churchill for some years.

I reckon you also have to read around Churchill. The bio’ by Lord Moran, the King’s surgeon attended (almost lived in Churchill’s pocket) for the entire period of his Prime Ministership, is a good start.

Then see some of the people he “sponsored” in WW2, Percy Hobart is one exceptional example, the first man to create and command an armoured brigade in the late 20s, and after Churchill resurrected him, the commander of the largest armoured division in WW 2, 79 Div (RE). See; ‘Armoured Crusader’ by Kenneth Macksey, MC, London: Hutchinson.

This gives a view back upon Winston.

The free world continues to owe WSC a debt of some magnitude. Did anyone know, also, he was a member of the Bricklayers union and wrote papers on prison reform prior to becoming an MP?

well, that’s true that in many countries that has majority muslim population the social development is pretty bad. but i think islam isn’t the reason for that. speaking from my own experience, i’m from uzbekistan which has more than 80% muslim population. but the reason for the economic and social challanges is that they don’t practice islam. everything is by bribery, selfishness and all the things that’s prohibited by islam pretty much exists there. when i think about it, islam would be very good solution in my country. In US and England, the system is more islamic than those so called “Muslim” countries, For example bribery does not exist, good opportunity to get knowledge, human rights, and as general more open minded people. that makes them developed countries in my opinion.

You had me wondering for a moment there. When I saw this, I didn't see the date right off: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 8:33:14 PM by capt. norm (Error: Keyboard not attached. Press F1 to continue)

What caught my eye was the tag line which I haven't used in at least two years.

Churchill was a pure genius. Here is something I found with him in it discussing Sharia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP__2BhdunM&feature=channel_video_title
