I thought this would happen. Our debt will rise. Gas will rise. Our military will be kicked out of countries that have previously supported us.

I hope the people on this forum who chose deliberately not to educate themselves about the issues are proud of themselves. Because I'm disgusted with them.

You think they would have gotten a clue when the Dems are against the port deal.

And I'm sure the Democrats will find a way to blame it all on Bush.

I'm hoping there is some way this "blocking" can be stopped. What a travesty--for intel, for bases, and for foreign policy even beyond what is going on now.

I'm with you. Unfortunately, the people you refer to won't care... ignorance is bliss.

I agree.

Those Republicans in Washington who did this for reelection have just cooked their own goose. They look like democrat idiots now. They listened to the Democrats - to their own demise. They should know better than feel threatened by the democrats and liberal press. You'd think they would have figured that out by now.

Look---this shakeup in the relationship is just one of a hundred pieces of fallout that started after 9-11 and will continue in some form for YEARS/ I understand who is playing this for politics, and WHY, but automatically going to Bush's side because the Dems and some Republicans are using the issue just leads to more of the usual partisan stasis. It gets us nowhere. This Ports deal may be the beginning of a disentangling process with these people , who, I would remind everyone, would not even EXIST as players on the world stage were it not for their good fortune to be sitting atop a precious natural resource/ And if the "Royals" in Dubai are truly as peeved as reported, just how important IS it to them financially, strategically, or any other way to keep this deal?
cAN'T THEY FIND SOME OTHER PORTS, OR SOMETHING ELSE TO DO WITH THEIR UNEARNED BILLIONS?
I hope this begins a process of let's call it "creative isolationism", but it will be a long , slow process.\\
I'm patient.

I too am disgusted with the people who would give in to mass hysteria and politics instead of informing themselves with the facts and supporting and voting for the right thing. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to about this that are so ignorant that they think Saudi Arabia is the same as the Arab Emirates duh! I think now we are screwed and have created a lot of ill will even if the deal does go through.

Bravo, and ditto. Since when has being "stupidly obstinate" been a "conservative" virtue?

Agree totally. I never have been so disappointed with these freepers as I am now. Talk about ignorant. We have lost an Arabic Ally that the reproductions will be enormous. And security was never an issue.

Good for you. I am disgusted that others will put profits above national security. No nation should be controlling (or even owning) national security interests. Believing otherwise goes against our national sovereignty.

How is this any different than taking the correct stance on our border issues, even at the expense of Mexican money, investments, etc.?

"I thought this would happen. Our debt will rise. Gas will rise. Our military will be kicked out of countries that have previously supported us."

Hyperbole. They won't kick us out because they are making money by our troops and ships being there. Our debt will rise why? Gas is rising all the time. We don't get our gas from Dubai, and if gas prices rise for us, they rise for everyone else in the world too. So the UAE is going to get us back by somehow causing prices of gas to rise throughout the whole world?

What countries will our military be kicked out of, pray tell? Please list them, and why they would be kicked out. Countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and others are begging us to locate our military bases in their countries, because they know a good deal both financially and security-wise for them, when they see it. The UAE would never allow any of our U.S. companies to manage their ports; why would we let them do that which they would never contemplate allowing us to do? Especially in light of 9/11. The ports Dracula is down for the Count (pardon the pun) now. It's time to drive a permanent stake in it.
