One of my favorites.

I'm listening to "It Hurts to Be in Love" now.

Rest in peace...

Aw jeez, he was a great one. "I'm Gonna Be Strong" and "True Love Never Runs Smooth" and "Half Heaven, Half Heartache" and "It Hurts To Be In Love" and many many more. So sad. RIP, and thank you for so many great songs.

I remember his music well, in the early 60s.

RIP, Gene.

Police said the death did not appear suspicious.

WTF?

Healthy performer completes concert, lies down for a nap, dies.

?

Gene Pitney, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame died Wednesday at a hotel in Wales after playing a show, his agent said. He was 65.

Although I haven't really thought about Gene Pitney in a number of years, I'm sad to learn of his passing. I was in my early teens when he first became popular ... have fond memories of that era and his music was part of it.

It's rather surprising, because he was famous in later years for staying remarkably in shape and youthful for an oldies act.

"It Hurts To Be In Love" is one of the all-time great oldies. My 5-year-old daughter loves it, too.

He grew up in Rockville, CT. I have probably wandered the same streets he played on.

We each owe God one life one death..

The real issue is where you and your loved ones spend eternity..

My father went to High School with him, I grew up in Somers which is where he was living when I was a kid.

One day I was out taking a walk and he stopped to say hi (He was out for a jog) I had never met him before, seemed like a real nice guy, very friendly.
I mentioned that my Dad went to Rockville High and that he was a couple of classes ahead of him.
Apparently he had a good memory as well because he even recalled my Dad was on the Basketball team.

Sorry to see him go, 65 is awfully young.

Just the best male torch singer anywhere! I listen to him every day, never tire of "24 Hrs from Tulsa," "Town Without Pity," "Liberty Valance," and everything else I can find on the web.

Here's a link to the Pitney wavs, all free: http://www.angelfire.com/music4/crhay26/Pitney.htm

Rest in peace.

A lot of the "good ones" in music have died recently.

Sad news. His music is associated with some good memories for me. Prayers for his loved ones.
