Urban teens are increasingly losing their virginity before they can legally drive.
A new survey shows four out of 10 city kids say they have had intercourse before age 14, and have engaged in oral and even anal sex by 17.
"This study makes clear that urban young adults engage in a variety of sexual behavior beyond vaginal intercourse," said Dr. Danielle Ompad, who authored the survey for The New York Academy of Medicine.
Ompad said the findings raise concerns about the possibility of a boom in sexually transmitted diseases among teens who don't know about safe sex.
"Sex education and intervention programs should address the risk for the unintended consequences of sexual behavior," Ompad said.
The study, published in The Archives of Sexual Behavior, examined the sexual habits of 2,311 Baltimore youths. But Ompad said, "I don't think other cities would be too different."

Sounds like 40% of parents are horrible parents.. Not surprising.
That's wonderful, and our family is the same. We never miss a Sunday and our conservative values inform every aspect of our lives. But I know families just like ours in our church, and their wholesome-looking, church-going kids were going wild in secret--sex, pot, liquor. You'd be amazed how skilled some kids can be at deceiving their parents in order to have sex. It's just amazing. Peer pressure and "society" as a whole are very powerful influences and sometimes they're a stronger influence even than two Christian parents.

While we can blame Bubba, the Unzipped, let's look a little closer to home. More specifically, the junk that comes into most houses everyday via television. The WB and UPN are specializing in shows directed at teens and showing them engaging in casual sex and casual drug use as though they were swilling a soda.
If parents aren't watching programs such as The OC, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls and a host of others with their kids, they are missing the crap that Hollyweird is teaching their kids.
Awww, come on! He even glows when ever he is called "the first Black President".

In Detroit, 69% of children are born out of wedlock, not kidding.
Remember oral sex isn't sex dependng on what the meaning of "is" is.

So, who'surprised that when pubic school teachers tell kids they're going to do it anyway, the kids do it?
Well, doing the math, I'd say these teen's grandparents.
Ad parents and all who think that right and wrong behavior is subjective.
And what percentage answered truthfully?
I can imagine the snickers when a dirty-minded but physically virginal teen fills out these surveys. "Yeah, I did it when I was 12 [snicker]. . ."
I have no doubt the prevalence of fornication, including more 'exotic' sexual practices is fairly high among teens, but I'd be wary of prevailance statistics based on surveys only.

My son is in the 10th grade. They get these surveys all the time, and they find it quite amusing to exaggerate their sexual experience.
