Fair and balanced
28-April-2006 | Ron Pickrell

Recently the Washington Press Corps was revolting. Hmmm... How can I word that better?

Recently, the Washington Press Corps complained that the T.V.s in Air Force One are tuned to Fox News. Fox, as many are aware, is the network which prides itself on being "fair and balanced".

This apparently has enraged the media. Their spokesman decries that all of the newsmen absolutely wish to watch CNN, instead of Fox, and that, though guests aboard Air Force One, their preferences must prevail.

This is of course, it should be noted, the same media which has vehemently denied that their reporters favor either the left or the right, but are perfectly balanced and perfectly divided among conservative and liberal leanings in their press corps.

One is left to wonder, therefore...

If a poll is taken among them which shows universal antipathy towards that network which claims balance as it salient point, and instead universally acclaims the virtues of CNN...

... exactly how many "Republican" members of the press corps voted for CNN. Hmmm? All 50%?

All 15%?

All... none?

You see, I'm betting Bush knows this.

Yes, the Washington press corpse is revolting.
What's new ?
If they don't like what's on TV, tell them to read a book.
Preferably a history and gain some perspective.

This has been instructive, for interrogation purposes. Remember in Orwell's 1984, the authorities had a file on everyone that included their worst nightmare. Remember the mask filled with rats?

So you want to find out who leaked info to the Washington Post but the aiding & abetting reporter won't budge?
Place her in a windowless, damp, dark cell, strap her to a very low foot stool and have her face a 72" Mitsubishi with surround sound.....tuned to Fox News 27/7.

Stories like this make me smile.

The Admin is doing the right thing...the Whitehouse Press Corps., for the most part, are nothing but a crew of agenda serving, gutless, tripe writing, stooges...

Well, you do have to admit that Fox is far from "fair and balanced". The only real difference is that they're more obvious in their bias....

Right. Like Carl Cameron, Wendell Goler, and Jim Angle voted for CNN.

If the FOX show "24" is to be believed, no one in this country ever uses their TVs for anything other than watching FOX news. Including the President.

I want only fair and balanced, nonpartisan news.

That's why I only watch "Democracy Now"....

Oh, I'll grant you that certain segments and certain pundits on Fox have a conservative lean. But that misses the point.

If the media truly/b> was non biased and objective, then then they would necessarily need to watch BOTH channels.

If the media was not non-biased, but rather split down the middle like America, then half of them would demand CNN, and half demand Fox.

What do you call it when the non-biased newsmen ALL demand CNN?

Now, I don't know about you... but when it looks like a Helen Thomas, and it smells like a Helen Thomas, and it sounds like a Helen Thomas...

..someone or "somethem" seem to be hoist on their own canard...

All kidding aside, thanks for the reply.

I would say that Fox is less obvious with it's leftwing bias. It still has a ways to go to the right before it would be balanced though.

Interesting - I would argue that it is more obvious in its rightwing bias. Especially when it comes to their pundit shows, which seem to make up 90+% of their programming. Very little is actually news....

The suggestion that half the White House press corps could consider themselves “Republican” was worth the price of admission alone.

Good stuff.
