Inland Valley Daily Bulletin Inaccurate (Border Patrol rebuts Minutemen report)

Inland Valley Daily Bulletin Inaccurate

(05/09/2006)Statement Today’s report by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, “U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols,” is inaccurate. Border Patrol does not report activity by civilian, non-law enforcement groups to the Government of Mexico. During a detention of a legal or illegal immigrant that produces an allegation of improper treatment, Border Patrol reports the allegation and allows the appropriate consulate to interview the individual in custody.

This is consistent with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 that provides consular access to foreign nationals being detained by a foreign government. This is the same agreement that protects United States citizens when they travel to foreign countries.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol continues to appreciate the efforts of civilians who contact law enforcement authorities regarding suspicious activity.

Yeah.

I guess the news media (they're all just lying, I believe the government always) didn't get the memo, since all of these are just from the past hour alone:

You know....this accusation of President Bush calling the actual Minutemen, "vigilantes"...is as bogus, and tiresome, as the accusation that when he was on that aircraft carrier, the "Mission Accomplished" sign was regarding the war in Iraq...

This thread is in Breaking News so they should easily find it.

You certainly don't think they're going to come on this thread and admit they jumped the gun, do you?

"I saw your posts today; it sure as hell didn't look like you were in "wait and see" mode today."

As I said, I was pretty steamed when I first read about it, and as I recall I just made one post regarding this. Maybe two.

If that's what you really believe you need an adjustment. I hammer him on illegal aliens and all that that encompasses. I hammered him on Dubai because he was ready to use the veto for the very first time and was being arrogant about it. You want an echo chamber but some of us disagree with him and say so. We don't follow blindly.

But hey, if you think all I do is bash Bush, far be it from me to shatter your illusions.

Border Patrol does not report activity by civilian, non-law enforcement groups to the government of Mexico," according to the statement. "During a detention of a legal or illegal immigrant that produces an allegation of improper treatment, Border Patrol reports the allegation and allows the appropriate consulate to interview the individual in custody."

Well, there you have it; they are NOT reporting the whereabouts of the Minutemen to the Mexican government.

You certainly don't think they're going to come on this thread and admit they jumped the gun, do you?

I gathered that Peach's concern was that some that read the original thread would be unaware that the BP is refuting part of the original story.

It didn't seem like her desire was to engage in debate on whether the story is true or not.

Unless you can refute the articles like with the phoney guard stories reported by Dan Rather on CBS, than I guess I do. Especially with Fox News and talk radio also on this.
