Israel warns of long-range Iran missiles [5,000 kilometers, for Europe.]

LONDON, May 16 (IranMania) - Iran is working to obtain long-range missiles which could threaten the whole of Europe, the former head of Israel's military intelligence said, AFP reported.

"Iran already has surface-to-surface missiles capable of being equipped with nuclear warheads with a 1,500 (930 miles) kilometer range but it will in the future have missiles with a range of 5,000 kilometers, which will threaten the whole of Europe," Aharon Zeevi told a conference in Tel Aviv.

Iranian President Mahmoud "Ahmadinejad is promising the end of history in two or three years' time and I suggest that we believe him," Zeevi added in remarks that were carried by Israeli radio.

Zeevi did not say when he expected Iran to have acquired the longer range missiles.

Israel has come to view Iran as its number one enemy, alarmed by Ahmadinejad's call for the Jewish state to be "wiped off the map".

While Iran insists its nuclear work is only designed to meet energy needs, Israel and the West believe it is a front to develop atomic weapons -- claims denied by Tehran.

General Amos Yadlin, who succeeded Zeevi as the military intelligence supremo earlier this year, said last week that Iran was likely to have acquired a nuclear bomb by 2010.

An Iranian Embassy in London (where the piece came from) wants to keep everyone focusing on Israel, yet broadcasts that Iran will soon have missiles with a range of 5,000 kilometers (3,106.86 miles)? Those missiles would not be for launching against Israel.

no news here.

They are not the first country seeking atomic weaponry and they will not be the last.

It is just the mullah attitude of self destructing religious twistedness active in the brains of some powerful Iranians combined with nukes that makes this a big issue.

Noone in his right mind will start a nuclear attack against second strike capable nations like Israel. Noone in his righ
t mind could possible think that handing nukes to terror groups will not fall back on them.

That's why Iran is special - Ahmedinedjad is possibly mad enough.

Isreal will certianly not live with secound strike capability if they see the chance to preempt him. Voila WWIII.

I still think there is some time left for diplomacy - just because I can't think of Israel just tapping their feet if A. had a nuke mounted on a appropriet carrier.

So, hopefully the Iranians hit Paris and do the world a favor.
Also maybe that will wake up the rest of the world.

Shiite or Sunni?
If the crazy who is in charge of Iran is say Sunni and the majority of muslims in paris were shiite he may just go ahead and do them in.
Isn't paris one of the largest homes to mooslims?
Sort of like Fort Pierce, Florida being Haitis second largest populated city.

LOL sometimes you must wonder, if the threads you post will encourage intelligent discussion.

I will try anyhow.

There are a number of reasons that Iran may have for extending there missile range.

1)Missile evolution short range leads to middle range leads to long range.

2) Blackmail of Europe, very hard to think of a reason, since Israel can survive without European support, but cannot survive without American.

3) As part of a war with Israel this would be a future war where Israel would be under threat and would need massive arms shipment would they come through Europe or through the Middle East, either way any attack on Europe by a nation will result in a immediate retaliation.

LOL I know Freepers thoughts on France, but if you look at Frances history since the 50s you will see that France is not afraid to use Military forces where and when its needed.

Just because she may not always be in step with America its more on national prestige and going her own way rather than cowardliness.

4)National Prestige, having longer range missiles could/would lead to stronger prestige for Iran, amongst other lesser nations, both Muslim and non Muslim.

Then how come France wussed out in VietNam and threw it in our laps?

Where else have the French used force since WW1? Algieria acting like Gendarmes? Ivory Coast, destroying BOTH aircraft of their air force?

How in the hell they EVER got on the UN Security Council is a mystery to me. That snotty DeGaulle must have really been a pill, I guess.

re :Then how come France wussed out in VietNam and threw it in our laps?

I am 45 years of age, if you are of similar age do you really want to use the word wussed out.

I had to look it up on google.

Why was France defeated in Vietnam.

In the 50s France was not ready to fight a colonial war half way round the world, she was still rebuilding her country after the war.

Saying that despite there limited resources the French with American backing fought for almost nine years against a determined enemy, that was fighting for independence.

The War in Algeria is a text book I recommend everyone to read if you want to study Counter Insurgency, I recommend the film ;War in Algeria' I had to watch it when I first transferred over.

Although they defeated the terrorist they did not have a real political plan to put into action apart from keeping Algeria as part of France.

So each time they defeated the Insurgency Military it came back again.

Once again they were fighting to keep a colony while the indigenous population fought for independence.

France is not shy in sending Military force if they feel that there is a need.

That is no different to America, and as with America they have had mixed results.

In fact in the last decade only France matches America in the number of low intensity operations carried out around the globe.

As a aside look to Africa in the future .

A number of Islamic extremist groups are turning up in certain African countries as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia and the Middle East have got to hot for them.

And France and America have started to share intelligence and Knowledge on these groups and the are they are operating in.

There has been a sea change and you will see closer French American co operation political, Intelligence and some military.

A "sea change"? I can see no results, so far. Pardon my obliviousness.

You must be French, or didn't grow up here. I'm 42, and we were using "wuss" when I was in high school. (yes I graduated) Matter of fact, it was a common term for a loudly barking, growling and snapping dog that ran with its tail between its legs as soon as you acted like you were picking up a rock. Sounds like something French.

I heard a rumor that the French Foreign Legion continued the policy of shooting fire guards who fell asleep during the '90s. The French Army is not known for being cowardly, but France did turn more anti-American for a decade or two. That's part of why we're seeing ridicule.

Another part has to do with a certain religious "traditionalist" identity mindset and its very old ethnic problem with the French (example of some of that detestable rhetoric with neo-Nazism here - see the word "France" or "French" in the Angelus Magazine article).

So many of the French have erred in framing their perception of America within the view of "empire" (as many of another country in western Europe also have), supported a terrorist regime with rhetoric and anti-USA conspiracy stories (Iraq) and continue to receive like rhetoric and stories from old rivals (Italian, British and some Balkan publications).

There has also been quite a bit of muck slinging between Britain and France regarding EU leadership, trade and other EU issues. From the US point of view (the British press), we've seen the battles of the baths ("power showers," "smelly French") and other such extraneous gestures.

On Iran, I think that it's a mistake to concentrate all public attention on Israel. Hatred against Israel is the mullahs' motivation for the masses, but Israel doesn't have much in the way of resources. Western European countries are prizes. The mullahs are mad in some ways, but they desire to eventually rule the world. Here's something else that you might find interesting to support my argument.

Arab-parast president: Iran and Sudan two pillars of the arabs' culture

I can't immediately recall as to who said, "pride goes before defeat," or something like that.

Israel also now has an anti-ballistic missile defense that will work, along with its 400 or so nuclear weapons. One short term goal of the mullahs is to destroy a foreign city that will retaliate, causing large numbers of Iranian casualties. They seek a way to incite more Islamist countries to their way of doing things.

Yes, Islamist leaders in various countries are advising Iran to concentrate rhetoric on Israel. They hope to tranquilize western Europe with that ruse. But if the Iranian Islamist leaders don't believe that they can get what they want from Israel, might they look elsewhere? We shouldn't underestimate them in everything, IMO.

In recent years French forces have dropped bombs on the bad guys in the Balkans, and recently in Afghanistan. French Air Force and Naval combat aircraft were providing close air support to US and other Coalition forces.
