Excellent rant, Pukin. Timely and much-needed. You have nailed it. Thank you for saying it.
The endless Bush-bashing and relentless negativism are draining, counterproductive and sad. We used to gloat when watching the Dims tear each other apart. And now we are doing the same.
I believe in President Bush. I believe good Republicans will win in November. But I believe it won't happen magically. We have to make it happen.
The negative energy on FR is suffocating. Frankly, I try to ignore it. The naysayers come out every election season like mold after a wet winter. They may represent 20-25% of FR, and are therefore a pesky nuisance here, but in the general electorate, I bet their percentage is more like 0.5%.
Sure, illegal immigration is a problem. Yes, gun ownership is a constitutional right. Agreed that our government is too big, even under Republican control. But single-issue zealots never won an election. Regardless of these issues, there are a whole lot of other fish to fry...the courts, for instance; the WOT, as an example; the economy, to mention another/ The inherent moral corruption of the Democrats should be enough to motivate anyone to vote Republican. Conservativism needs to be big-picture oriented.
I believe in the President, but I don't think its "bashing" the President by voicing disgareement with his lack of action on the border. There needs to be a 2000 mile long fence - no if, ands or buts, and I think the criticism of his lack of action led the President to start taking the illegal immigration problem seriously. He's got a long way to go, but FINALLY, he's started to read the tea leaves.
