N.Y. Poll: Hillary May Not Carry State in 2008

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton could have trouble carrying her own state if she runs for president in 2008 and Republicans nominate either former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani or Sen. John McCain of Arizona, a poll of New York voters reported Tuesday.

Lee Miringoff of Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion said the statewide poll, conducted in conjunction with New York City's WNBC-TV, is bad news for the former first lady given concerns nationally among some Democrats about her "electability."

In a theoretical matchup for the 2008 presidential race, the WNBC/Marist poll found Giuliani favored by 50 of New York voters to 46 percent for Clinton. The poll had Clinton at 48 percent and McCain at 45 percent.

"The question often centers around, can she be elected, can she carry a red state?" said the Marist pollster. "These numbers suggest that even right here in her own backyard the bluest of the blue Rudy Giuliani and Senator John McCain would give her a run for her money."

In New York, there are 5 million Democrats and 3 million Republicans, and the state has not been carried by a Republican presidential contender since Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984.

Clinton did better 58 percent to 36 percent against Gov. George Pataki, who like Giuliani is eyeing the 2008 GOP presidential nomination.

Marist's telephone poll of 735 registered voters was conducted May 1-7 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Polls have shown Clinton well ahead of her potential Republican opposition in her bid this year for a second Senate term and national surveys have her as the front-runner for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

In the WNBC/Marist poll, 49 percent of New Yorkers said Clinton should run for president in 2008, but 66 percent said it was unlikely she could be elected. Fifty-one percent said Giuliani should run, but 52 percent said it was unlikely he could be elected president. Seventy-four percent of New Yorkers polled said Pataki should not run for president.

You mean as in Hitlery being one of the strongest supporters of abortion or her being able to refer to Republicans in the House as "running a plantation"?

It's the way you refer to her as Hitlery!

You make my point.

Screw abortion......more liberals are murdering their own babies anyway.....murder away!!

Hitlery is mean and focused.

She goes for the jugular.

She has a backbone....

She may be evil but she is strong and getting stronger.

She does what she needs to do to win.

She will lie, cheat, steal and maybe even kill to attain her ultimate goal!

Decency is not in her vocabulary.

We need a Republican version of her.

The limp-wristed stumble-mouth we have in the White House now is no Republican.

He is Mexican...through and through!!

We always complain that the liberal Democrats give orders to the media and sometimes take orders too.

Well at least they don't take their marching orders from Vincente Fox.

And what kind of Mexican name is Fox, anyway?

I like Michael J. Fox.

"Why the hell doesn't he run against her for the Senate?"

Why should he, if he wants to be President?
Since JFK in 1960, no one from the US Senate had ever been elected President.

Why the hell doesn't he run against her for the Senate?

Because he would prefer to run for president.

Maybe, but is Rudy going to be the candidate?

I am not sure who would win in that match up,it is scary how many upstate votes she got last time.

My point was that it doesn`t matter as Rudy is not even giving hints of running much less getting any support from primary voters around the country.
Beyond him in state polls everyone loses here.

He's never going to be President. With his views on killing babies and gay 'rights', I've got more chance of winning the nomination!

If Rudy is serious about making a strong contribution, removing Hitlery from the Senate is surely it.

Some anti-illegal conservatives, outside of NYC, think Rudy's law & order image means he will be a Tom Tancredo Fan Club member.

Some evangelicals think Rudy's courageous act of telling the Saudi Prince to "F" off and refusing the $10 million for 9-11 cleanup means he will protect the churches from Islamo-Fascists.

With Bush's lack of leadership on Katrina, Iraq, Dubia Ports, and Immigration Reform, GOP voters are hungry for effective leadership. Rudy is planning to use 9-11 on portray himself as the 2nd coming of Reagan.

My vote counts as much as yours. ;-)

Trust me, Ruina the OVERRATED will not get the nomination.

I can see it now, Bernard Kerick as Secretary of State, Ray Harding as Commerce Secretary, and the first male-male wedding of Mark Finkelstein and Antonio Pagan on the White House lawn!

Then they are IGNORANT JACKA-SES who get the government they deserve.

Ruina the Overrated milks the media myth of 9/11 to death. You should have seen how his arrogant closet-case communications director JP Avalon put down Christian Conservatives at the New York Young Republican meeting last week!

Here's a thought... distasteful as the notion is, a President Hillary would come with a most amusing sidekick -- Bill, the First Fellow, presidential spouse and all-purpose event ornament. If Sick Willie's prospective role becomes an object of ridicule, we won't have to lift a finger to stop Her Heinous.

Bill will do that himself.

Rudy is on record as being pro-illegal and pro-multiculturalist. Romney, McCain, or Allen can easily drag such things out for those who had the wool pulled over their eyes by the media regarding Rudy Rockefeller after 9/11.

My point precisely.
All that may stand for something.. but murdering babies, killing to win elections etc is sure as heck not Republican.

She can win in funny places like Massachusetts (after all they keep reelecting Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy after he had gone and done a killing), but she sure as heck won't be winning in the MidWest or the South and certainly not be getting Republicans votes from these places.
I also bear in mind that her equally nasty husband , won with just 43% of the vote in 1992, and never won even close to 50% of the popular vote ever... and BJ Clinton has far more political skillsand charm than Hitlery. Hitlery has about as much charm as a rattle snake.

BTW: Have you seen the renovated Oriental Institute at U of C? I was there two weeks ago, and came away impressed.

I'm ready for Rudy!

He's the guy who in 1995 threw out Yassir Arafat and his entourage from Lincoln Center..

It's deeds I'm looking for.

It's leadership that this nation has been sorely lacking for nearly 20 years.

The last three presidents have been accidents.......

When the entire barrel of apples is rotten, the one you choose surely smells too!
