Social Security for illegals OK'd

Senate blocks effort to limit benefits for those who become legal residents

The U.S. Senate today rejected an effort to limit Social Security benefits for illegal aliens who become permanent residents under an immigration reform bill being debated.

As it stands, the bill the Senate is considering would give millions of illegals a path to U.S. citizenship if they pay fines, back taxes and meet other requirements.

The Social Security proposal, offered by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., would have prevented illegals who become legal from collecting the benefit on wages they earned while working unlawfully.

"Social Security was not intended for people who entered our country illegally," Ensign is quoted as saying.

Countered Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.: "Their money sits in the Social Security Administration waiting to be matched with an eligible beneficiary, and once those workers establish the eligibility, how in all fairness can we deny them the credit for their past contributions?"

Reuters reported that later today senators will consider an amendment to the bill by Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., to make English the national language.

As WorldNetDaily reported, yesterday the Senate approved an amendment to the immigration reform bill that would direct the building of a triple-layer fence along 370 miles of the southern border with Mexico.

The Bush administration today indicated the president supported the fence proposal.

"[Bush] doesn't think you fence off the entire border but there are places ... where fences are appropriate, and then, you build fences there," spokesman Tony Snow said.

Widows will receive SS widows benefits and SS for their children up to 18 (and maybe college as well). Widow doesn't have to have worked one day to collect these benefits, and it doesn't matter how young she is.

No wonder they want to come here..uggghh.

Just to be clear:

They never had any right to this money. They knew all along that they would not receive it.

Furthermore they would never have "paid into" social security had they not been here illegally.

You are entitled to your own opinion but frankly it is impossible to make a rational argument that there is anything "reprehensible" in preventing these criminals from benefiting from the criminal act of entering illegally.

Don't waste your time. This troll is a hack, and at this point, most people are too cynical to listen to someone try to justify criminal activity.

Heck, let's just give them a $10,000 a year check for life and be done with it!

So what was all the hoopla on this board a few years ago when these questions were raised, but GW didn't want to do anything about the border crossings? I mean the chickens have come home to roost ANYWAY. Meanwhile, a lot of posters were banned and we lost a lot of conservative voices. Including me, to a point. What a waste of time! And Conservative energy!
And yes, this is a criticism of my much beloved FreeRepublic.com. What's next, then- a Democrat President in 08? I should have spoken sooner. Not that anyone would have listened. It may be too late now.

Right. I guess in your eyes it is right to take a woman who's been struggling to support her kids as a housekeeper...... uproot her and send her back to some God-forsaken country where she has no hope, will have to live a destitute life...and that is a just solution for her having sneaked across the border 15 years ago?

These are the warped moral priorities we see posted by many of the so-called "anti-illegal" posters here.

Can Republicans in the Senate do more to see to it that Democrats get power?

This kind of BS is exactly what will keep the people home rather than voting.

This is traitorous, frustrating and infuriating.

IMO, we are going to have to take names, keep our will to remove them fresh for a couple of years then get rid of them in the primaries for other Republicans who we should pick now, not that are chosen for us.

Are we going to forget or make them pay with a loss of their job and giving it to other Republicans that are more conservative?

IMO, retire them in the next primaries.

So all you can do is label those who disagree with you as "trolls and hacks"?

This, along with your total lack of ability to mount a coherant response shows just how pathetically weak your position really is.

I knew the arguments in these threads were weak, but it amazes me just how unwilling ya'll are to fight back against those of us willing to confront you on this issue.

See post 38 for the list.

Martinez is particularly grating, since the WH backed him over McCollum, a solid conservative, in the primary.

Now, they're doing the same thing to Harris, except this time, there's no strong RINO running against her. Now, she's just wounded by the Bush backstab- Jeb and George both, and unlikely to win.

Frustrating.

My problem with this is the Republicans are taking about the only path they could to frustrate their base to the point that they stay home and let Hillary become President.

Why is the Republican party so constatly stuck on stupid the last few years, anyone have a clue about this?

I want good conservatives in. I want the guys who did the contract with America. Seems these Republicans act more like they have a CONTRACT ON AMERICA.

As you say, it gets very frustrating, especially if you were born a logical person.

If you have ten Juan Gonzalez's that have been using the same name and SS# how do you determine who gets the money or do they all get it?

First to file wins!

You need to contact the SS Admin. re: what you have paid in and what they have on record that you'll receive. They'll mail you a report/summary. Keep a close eye on what shows up on it. If you see any discrepancy re: past employers, I would report it immediately.

Excelent recomendation. Both my wife and I get a copy mailed to us each quarter. I watch it like my credit report. If an employer ever shows up on the report that I have not worked for I will immediately begin straightening it out. If there are SS contributions then there are income taxes to go along with them - not to mention possible identity theft that includes credit cards, etc.

If there were ten illegals using your SS# and employers were withholding a couple thousand bucks from each one, you could get a twenty thousand dollar tax refund that year !

If they put down 10 dependents on their W-4 you get nothing because nothing gets withheld. Then the IRS comes after you for back taxes when they see you only have a couple of dependents.

It's absurd. Knowing that the SS system is in deep trouble already, why would anyone deliberately sabotage it by adding millions of illegals that won't contribute to it at all, or very little. And also knowing that the majority of Americans would be totally against this, since their ssn benefits will be stretched even further under an already strained system.

Something is extremely fishy here. Uh oh. I sense another conspiracy freakout coming on. Tri-lats, Illuminati, Globalists & Bildenburgs....damn you all to hell!

"He already has.

In June 2004, Bush's appointed SSA commissioner signed the Social Security Totalization Agreement with Mexico that gives, not only the Mexican illegal alien access to our SS benefits, but also allows him to apply for, and receive benefits for his Mexican wife and children, even if the wife and children have never stepped foot in the USA.

He's just waiting until he gets his amnesty program signed into law, then he's going to spring this one on us. Mark my words. The pieces are in place, he's just waiting to spring the trap."

You know the socialist DemRats are never going to give up that much of YOUR MONEY! Come on. Get real. They'll slime their way back into power, raise taxes, raise ssn, raise everything ELSE that we have to pay for, and they'll finally be happy. They're already taken over the media, unions and the public school system. They've infiltrated every single branch of government there IS, including city government office positions, and including the Republican Party. Let's face it....the Rep Party is our last and ONLY hope. If they betray us, we're screwed. If that happens, it might be time for another tea party.

"There is one GOOD hing about this... Maybe, when America is fully aware of the ramifications of this incredibly damaging decision, they will get on board with PRIVATIZING SOCIAL SECURITY. I would much prefer the gummint let me keep my money and invest it my way. I'd be a millionaire 3 times over by the time I retired."

Yeah...I think I'm in love! I've been following his career for years now. I even emailed him and asked that he consider running for Pres in '08. Hell, I'd pack up and move to Nevada or DC to work for him for free! (whew!) (is it getting hot in here?)

Uh....Garry Boldwater?

Anyhoo....what else can we do but deluge the WH and our reps with our emails & letters, faxes, etc.? How about an organized protest in every city (like the hispanics just did, only better)? Maybe it's time we get out of our comfy chairs, turn off our pc's and take it to the streets like the DemRats always do.
