Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?

Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."

In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

Quigley and Stender conclude:

"No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering. We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves."

Give it time. Darwin Central will try (unsuccessfully, I might add) to get her banned from FR too.

They hate her with a passion normally reserved for just Creationists, lol.

No link, so I can't determine what actually was said.

We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book.

If this is the limit of it they're asking people to voluntarily take an action, not legislating it. This is as much an infringement of Coulter's free speech as your local Christian book store refusing to carry pornography infringes the rights of pornographers. Business owners can carry the merchandise that they wish to market.

Well thanks for taking it so well. It's one of my real pet peeves... I wasn't born in NJ and didn't grow up here, but my husband is born & raised and after living here for so long, I completely understand why he was always touchy about it.

When I was new to FR, I posted something in which I called MA "massa-two-sh*ts." I was quite rightly chastized! lol

"You heard me. They were tasteless."

A New Joisey who's elected wrote a book "about going up and down the Parkway to find sex with other men..." are exactly the kind of people to lecture the rest of th country on good taste right?

I grew up in Queens, NYC for the most part. I've done my best to lose the accent.

Stop that. Rationality is not welcome in Ann Coulter threads!

That may be the dumbest argument I've read on the entire Internet. An entire state is marginalized because of the actions of an ex-governor who had to resign in disgrace?

LOLOLOL

Ann C. is going to have to send Joan Quigley and Linda Stender a thank you note.

Or better yet, she can write it & send them a Quicktime file of her ripping it up.

Well, words have meaning Mike. I can agree that Quigly and Stender are not calling for a Government ban on the book. But they are asking for someone else to "ban" the book. They are not asking for a "boycott," they are asking for a "ban."

That's an illegal restraint of trade and 1st Amendment Law suit in the making; IMHO.

Because the Ann Coulter threads attract all the Kos/DU trolls at FR to come spew out their moronic DU talking points.

No, we wouldn't. We'd be calling for boycotts at worst, and the leftscum would scream that we'd be trying to "censor" Ward Churchill. But when actual politicians call for actual censorship, the leftscum can't see the difference.

Ok, I'm not going to disagree, but just asking businesses not to sell a book is perfectly within the rights of Free Speech from anyone. It may be asinine in this case, but founded on pure constitutional precepts.

Pretty harsh words. Don't they realize that Ann is just trying to repair her shattered life after the tragic death of her pet hamster.
