Music video about Marine sparks anger

WASHINGTON - A music video posted to the Internet, telling a tale about a U.S. Marine killing members of an Iraqi family, is being condemned by an Islamic group and investigated by the Marine Corps.

The four-minute video, called "Hadji Girl," appears to be sung by a Marine in front of a cheering audience. The lyrics talk about the Marine gunning down members of an Iraqi woman's family after they confront him with automatic weapons.

Lt. Col. Scott Fazekas, a spokesman for the Marines, said Tuesday that the Marines were aware of a video posted on the Internet that "purports to show a Marine singing an insensitive song about Iraqis." Fazekas said officials don't know the identity of the singer or whether he is in the military.

The song was "inappropriate and contrary to the high standards expected of all Marines," Fazekas said. He said Marine officers are looking into the matter.

Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said that in light of recent allegations of atrocities committed by Marines in Haditha and other towns in Iraq, the video should be investigated by the Pentagon and Congress.

"The inappropriate actions of a few individuals should not be allowed to tarnish the reputation of all American military personnel," said Awad.

The video was posted anonymously on the http://www.youtube.com Web site, but was removed. It is still available on CAIR's web site. A Hadji is a pilgrim who journeys to Mecca, but CAIR said the word has often been used as a disparaging term by U.S. troops in Iraq.

"The video is not reflective of the tremendous sacrifices and dedication demonstrated, on a daily basis, by tens of thousands of Marines who have assisted the Iraqi people in gaining their freedom," Fazekas said. "We agree with the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations that the inappropriate actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of all American military personnel."

The singer is shown playing a guitar and singing about meeting an Iraqi woman and then being confronted by her brother and father, who have guns. The lyrics describe the Marine pulling the woman's little sister in front of him and watching blood spray from her head.

He then sings about blowing the father and brother "to eternity."

Defense officials are investigating allegations that U.S. Marines massacred as many as two dozen unarmed civilians in Haditha last November. Another probe is under way into charges that U.S. troops pulled an unarmed Iraqi man from his home in Hamandiya in late April and shot him to death without provocation.

Pipeline News and Little Green Footballs have been covering this story. Here is PN's description of the video:

"In the heat of battle a young girl appears out of nowhere and invites this Marine to meet her family. She is leading him into an ambush but he doesn’t know it. When the two of them arrive at her home, the girl’s father and brother open fire, the Marine hits the ground and the girl is killed by her brother and father’s gunfire - ”threw open the door and I hit the floor ‘cause her brother and father shot her.“ The girl’s father and brother are still intent on killing the Marine so he grabs the girl’s sister and the brother and father then proceed to gun her down also in their haste to kill the Marine."

There's more, including a link to the video at http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/weblog.php

Bottom line: CAIR is lying again.

I watched it the other night, it was FUNNY.

That's the problem with Muslims, no sense of HUMOR!

If Bush suddenly announced he was "The king of my domain", there would be laughs too (at least from those who watch Seinfeld).

If Bush said that, no one would know what he meant. However, if he said he was "master of my domain", then we might chuckle. Laura would elbow him, Hillary would wish she hadn't married a sex fiend.

The laughs for "dirka dirka" tell me that the audience watches Team America a lot, and probably has go around saying that when they want to make fun of people speaking Arabic. In every war we have had, it has been helpful to morale to denigrate the enemy. Sorry, but it's true--it's not easy for people to kill other people unless you find a way to dehumanize them in advance. Thus, we have fought slants and gooks and krauts and nips and rebs and yanks and redcoats and redskins and all sorts of ethnicities. We made fun of their characteristics, real or imagined. And at the end of the war, we made peace, learned more about them, and usually became friends again.

One of the things I was dismayed about right after 9/11 was the instant and total effort to keep people from having negative thoughts about Arabs and Islam. I think if we continue to fight this war in a sanitized fashion, it is only going to force us to be more vicious in the end.

CAIR is lying again

That's like saying that the sun will rise tomorrow. When an organization's reason for existence is to lie to the infidels as part of a global jihad, to be a trojan horse inside the great satan, of course anything and everything that they say or do is going to be part of an effort to deceive.

Thanks for pointing me to the LGF link, and to the detail about the song. I only listened to it once, and didn't get all the lyrics. I didn't catch that they shot Hadji Girl, too, in their haste to kill the Marine.

The lyrics talk about the Marine gunning down members of an Iraqi woman's family after they confront him with automatic weapons.

I suppose a song where he gets gunned down and dies would be preferable.

I interpreted it that Dad and Bro were pissed that she showed up with an infidel and killed her for her betrayal (which really happens in the Middle East) and then went to kill him but he grabbed the sister.

He was merely avenging the girls' death. I don't see what the problem with CAIR is, I thought they would respect revenge, but wait, it's avenging the death of women, which they do not do.

Oh, and by the way, it was a JOKE! Duh! It was terrific. I hope that guy gets a recording contract.

Check out the video on Little Green Footballs. It's pretty good.

I think it's authentic. And, I think he's pretty good!

A satirical song -- oh the horror. I give this ballad three out of a possible four Dirkas.

Do you or any one know how I can pull this off the Web to email it? My husband wants to send it to a bunch of his Marine friends.

He laughed his @$$ off, watching it.

I'm so tired of these whiners and pansies complaining about every little thing that goes on and making a big thing out of irrelevancies. However, the problem isn't the Iraqis per se, but the Liberals behind them who are using them (as it is their tactic) to undermine our military and the war on terror.

Personally, I find the whole 'terminally offended' mindset to be a complete joke. It never seems to occur to these folks, or their apologists, that it's possible that they just might be oversensitive themselves.

Whacked.

The Marine has been identified and is clearly concerned about the whole thing. He did not put it on the iternet, someone else did. LGF has further updates.

So much for the conspiracy guys who claimed it was a bad overdub done by the islamists. It was real. And it was no big deal.
