This is a call to anyone that would like to ee John Conyers bounced from office this November. Chad Miles, a veteran with experience in Desert Strom (He was with the 82nd Airborne, and also spent time in Army Intelligence) has filed to run against Conyers in the November election. Chad has very conservative views, and I think that, though it may look like an impossibility to most - including Mr. Conyers - Chad could win this thing. Most Dems that I know in the Downriver area are looking for ANYONE to vote for beside Conyers (This area was redistricted to Conyers by the Republican lead House in Michigan after 2000). I think if we could get the vote out in big numbers Downriver, and steal 25% - 35% of the Detroit vote, this is doable. Anyone interested in helping can go to his website: http://www.chadmilesforcongress.com By the way, Chad has made the "Daily Kos" http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/5/17/131942/811 ; though I think they are using this mainly as a cry for money to those supporting Conyers, they may be right in fearing that Chad could become formidable with the right backing. If you wonder what you can do, or are unsure that you have the time to make a commitment, we are looking for people to do things as simple as going to Conyers' blog, and refuting what he is trying to spin there. Feel free to contact me here, or at chris@jerichocomputers.com We're looking for any ideas people have on strategy, so please feel free to share. Thanks, Chris
One of ours running for Congress from Michigan against Comrade Conyers.
Chad was an Army 96B (Military Intelligence Analyst)
Thanks for the ping.
America, our children and grand children would be better off if this Gentleman can retire Conyers.
I like the caning idea...
Maybe we can send him a pack of gum and a ticket to Singapore.
Caning and Canning Comrade Conyers is an excellent goal.
Where in Michigan ya from?
Cause if it's Flynt ya might want to surrender.
Meaning no disrespect. Keep the faith.
Conyers' district is part of Detroit, and some of the 'Downriver' area...Detroit is a shoe-in for Conyers, and we have no illusions of winning more than 35% tops there, but the Downriver area, which was just added to his district after the redistricting following the 2000 census is very anti-Conyers...even the Demorats. We feel we have a legitimate shot here if we can get people to get past the "hang it up, it's no use" mentality that kills a campaign like this. Enlist in trying to oust Conyers, and you never know what could happen - they said that Blanchard couldn't be beat, and low and behold, Engler won the thing. We feel that this is the same type of campaign, and we're looking for those that know how to fight.
Thanks for the question.
As some at FR have asked because there is nothing listed on Chad's website concerning the 2nd amendment, I just wanted to add that Chad is a strong guns rights advocate, and this is what he sent the NRA in their recent questionnaire:
"Although I am not a member of your organization I am a long time hunter and gun owner. I started hunting with my father and grandfather at age 14 and continue this tradition with my own children. In fact, most members of my family are hunters, carrying on a tradition dating back to the 1820s when my relatives immigrated to the United States from England. I am a veteran of the Army spending seven years on active duty and a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
I believe the Constitution is very clear on the issue of gun ownership. It is a right that is guaranteed to all law abiding Americans. I would like to thank The NRA for giving me the opportunity to share my point of view regarding this important issue."
He also said that he was going to add this information to his website, and wanted to thank the members of Free Republic for bringing this oversight to his attention.
Ping thanks. Didn't realize your a Michigander. My brother lives there but not in Conyers' district. I'll be seeing him in Nov. Perhaps we could drive over to Detroit and vote. Hell, anyone can vote in Detroit, right?
Interesting that you mention that; I worked for the Republican Party on election eve 2004, and I was AMAZED at what we saw down at Cobo Hall as they were 'tallying" the votes. We were sent in to challenge any votes that looked suspicious, but what we witnessed blew my mind...we saw workers CREATING new votes from blank ballots, and pushing them through the counters - this was above and beyond the 'illegal' votes we expected to see (signatures not matching, etc.)
We ended up getting tossed out by the Detroit police as a lawyer for the Democrats (with some extra 'muscle' with him) started working to get into confrontations with every Republican worker he could find. We were all ordered to leave - including the Democrat lawyer and his pals, but amazingly enough the Democrats were allowed back in a few minutes later; pretty ripe stuff, and I haven't looked at politics in Detroit the same since...
It's probably worse in Hamtramck.
I'll be working for Keith Butler for senate. If Butler can cut into the Detroit vote, that may work for Chad.
Chad has had conversations with Keith Butler abut this, and we agree.
