(Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. fired one of his appointees to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority yesterday after the board member asserted on a local cable talk show that homosexuals lived a life of "sexual deviancy.")
Fired for speaking the truth? Then again what's a Transit Beaurocrat doing giving this opinion on the radio?
...and was absolutely correct.
(What the article doesn't really explain, is that Mr. Smith was a regular panelist on the show)
I wish it had, it would have made more sense.
Potential lawsuit?
Marylanders hate hearing it, but the reason Erhlich left congress was because he was on the more liberal side of the republican party. His views would not allow him to elevate in Republican leadership but were "moderate" enough for a run at the statehouse in the peoples republic of Maryland.
Sure he gets attacked by the Sun and Maryland media as a conservative-but then so would Olympia Snow in this area where usually the choice is between regular democrats and extreme liberal ones.

If he was speaking in his official capacity, the governor has the authority to fire him. If he was speaking as a private citizen, I think the guy has a lawsuit because he was fired for exercising his constitutional right on his own time.
At any rate, it's getting pretty obvious that homosexuality, once forbidden, is now well on its way to being compulsory.
Does he appear as a representative of the Transit Department or just as a Republican op-ed person?

The first amendment was stoled by left wingers. We need to steal it back.

And how many threads has FR had about people being booted from organizations for being gay, expelled from schools for having gay parents, or getting fired for being pregnant and unwed?
That it is a deviance is undebatable. What is being debated is the attitude towards that deviance.
The gay agenda is the wedge the left will use to try to end free speech and free exercise of religion for conservatives.
According to the various Courts and our elected Representatives, the 1st Amendment doesn't cover "hate speech". And THEY get to determine what "hate speech" is.
Of course it's all a sham, and we don't really have a Constitution protecting us anymore. The Constitution has been misinterpreted and butchered by the Supreme Court to the point where it's been completely re-invented into a pseudo constitution that REMOVES rights and protections that it's supposed to be giving.

some folks may have missed it (based on some of the comments), but it was Republican governor Bob Ehrlich doing the firing.
On occasion, we may be called upon to LOSE OUR LIVES.
Smith's right to express his religious views is protected by law.
Graham, another member of the board attacked him based on those religious beliefs.
Homosexuality is not protected. Nor is Smith's characterization of it as sexually deviant, an inaccurate statement. Graham is welcome to consider it hurtful, that doesn't make it inaccurate, nor does it give him the right to violate the law.
Smith should be reinstated. Graham should be fired. Ehrlich and Graham should be sued.
Smith doesn't appear to have violated the law, and his comments are protected by the law.
Graham and Ehrlich appear to have violated the law. This one needs to be taken to the courts.
