"cactus pygmy owl, Sonoran pronghorn, flat-tailed horned lizard . . . "
Well, how bout letting the owl fly across the fence, the lizard crawl through it, and capture some wolves and jaguars and release them on this side. What a flimsy attempt at ending any attempts at stopping the flow of illegals.

The bighorns, which inhabit parts of the San Bernardino National Forest and thrive on Mount San Jacinto, migrate across the border to mate with herds in Baja California. It fortifies the gene pool enhancing survival of the breed. So we can't have a fence because it would prevent anchor lambs?
Also, if the pygmy owl can't fly over the fence, maybe it should be made extinct and replaced with a actual flying bird.

No, we are just ANTI-ILLEGAL-ALIEN. That is all. But that is saying alot, when it comes to protecting this country from a whole host of dangers --- from Washington pols to Mexicans. Take your pick.

"They could have all the sheep come in and register, then issue them passports or breeding visas which they would display for free passage to Mexico, and when they have their fill of nookie, they would have free passage back. Simply show their papers at the gate...." But registering would create a hardship for underprivileged and low income bighorn sheep

Let the enviros gather and use their vehicles to transport the designated sheep for conjugal visits.

"Experts say border fence would hurt bighorn sheep (Sheep or Illegals)"
And who "protects" them when the country ends and the illegals start to eat them?
This is pure bull shiite!

Somehow I just knew that my post would elicit response.
Unfortunately, it wouldnt be practical to put critter gates (out only) in the fence like they do along the Interstate highways in deer and elk country.
Things have become so politically polarized that it seems that there is no one left in the middle to figure out simple solutions to simple problems. The coin has but two sides, the outside one side and the outside other side. There is no cooperation in the center.

"wolves and jaguars"
What a load of BS, the only jaguars are in the most remote parts of the middrifs running across the center of Baja and I seriously doubt that there are any wolves left in existance.
As far as the desert bighorn migrating across the border, it ain't going to happen, there isn't any route for them to travel from their range here to where there are any in Mexico.

All the Mexican sheep need is a visa or green card and the American Sheep a Tourist card.

"It caught many people by surprise," said Melissa Waage, legislative director for the biological center. "A lot of people are concerned about fragmentation of wildlife habitat in the area." But the tons and tons of trash and fecal matter dumped along the border..? That doesn't affect the habitat of the wildlife? We see your TRUE agenda, honey...and it has NOTHING to do with 'wildlife'. Jerk.

The bighorns, which inhabit parts of the San Bernardino National Forest and thrive on Mount San Jacinto, migrate across the border to mate with herds in Baja California. It fortifies the gene pool enhancing survival of the breed. "If the California herds are isolated from herds in Mexico, repopulating and genetic flow in both herds will be affected," said Daniel Patterson, desert ecologist with the Center for Biological Diversity.
So exchange a few sheep each year. It is pretty simple. Colorado and Wyoming Wildlife Departments do this sort of thing every year with one species or another. Capture a few sheep from north of the border and take them south, return with sheep from south of the border. No big deal.
I have been waiting for this objection to the fence. It was only a matter of time until someone started talking about environment impact statements, etc. I am in favor of a fence...but it is going to be a long, tough battle.

There it is, finally, another looney left group with a fax machine.
On to useful news...

Exactly. These liberal so-called "environmentalists" (whatever that really is) cannot get a legitimate job, so they make a career out of making other people miserable by trying to impede their rights and access. Build the freakin' fence (my dream) --- but it will never happen until after Jan. 2009, then maybe not even then.
