Mel Gibson does deal on DUI

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Mel Gibson has escaped jail after pleading guilty to drunk driving.

The 'Mad Max' star agreed a plea bargain with prosecutors on Thursday (17.08.06) and in return was given three years probation, ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and told to enrol in an alcohol abuse programme for three months.

Mel - who was also fined $1,300 and had his driving license restricted for 90 days - was arrested on July 28 after being pulled over on Pacific Coast Highway, in Maui, for speeding.

He then launched into an anti-Semitic tirade, during which he allegedly said: "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."

Afterwards, the 50-year-old actor profusely apologised for his comments.

Mel said: "I acted like a persson completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable.

"I am deeply ashamed of everything I said, and I apologise to anyone who I have offended."

Mel - who signed the plea agreement and waived his right to a jury trial on Monday (14.08.06) - did not appear in court for the hearing. His lawyer Blair Berk entered the plea on his behalf.

Malibu's deputy district attorney Gina Satriano said in a statement: "This was an appropriate outcome which addresses all the public safety concerns of drinking and driving."

Excuse me, know I now you are crazy, I wrote that I can't stand George Clooney. And you are calling George Clooney, "my dream boy". Along with everything else you can't you read.
And boy, you are REALLY standing up to evil, by sitting around on this board, writing about Mel Gibson for hours on end.
By the way, what does the National Enquirer have to say this week?
What does your great source of educational information say this week? That is really standing up to evil!!!

Do you know Julie if I thought it would enlighten you, I have tons, and tons of links I could attach here about Mel Gibson from friends, priests, ministers, reverends, family, colleagues who have spoken out about Mel in the last few weeks who have come out in his support of Mel, and told what kind of man he really. The kind of man they know him to be when he is sober. Charitable, honest, kind dedicated family man, the kind of man who has give millions upon millions to charity, but who doesn't want anybody to know about it, unlike most Hollywood stars. But because I know that you already have your mind totally made up, and don't want to be enlightened, I am NOT going to bother. You don't care to have your mind opened.
And by the way, you are YOU can deny it all you want but you are obcessed with him. You can say you don't care about him, but if you didn't care about him, you wouldn't have spent all these hours posting about him.

I am a proud Dodgers fan! I don't understand why people persist in defending Gibson when he has finally outed himself as the hateful person some of us suspected he was several years ago. He merely confirmed what I had already suspected: that he is a chip off the Old Block! Why do you make personal attacks on Veronica and Juliej? They are standing up for their own people.

I am a proud Dodgers fan also. Julie made personal attacks on me, and I am defending myself.
Who I choose to defend is my own business. I don't agree with you about Mel Gibson-I am entitled to my opinion, as you are entitled to yours.
I know many people who know Mel Gibson on a personal basis, and know him as a wonderful, kind, charitable, dedicated, devoted family man. As I told Julie, I could link to hundreds of stories here that would show Mel Gibson to be that man, but you have your mind made up, and you don't WANT to be enlightened any other way.
Mel Gibson got drunk, said horrible things, apologized twice, immediatley went into rehab, and is seeking help. As I have said several times, lets see what he does with the rest of his life. I don't know what your religion tells you, but MY religion tells me, to give the guy a chance if he is seeking help and redemption.

Mel Gibson - and others like him - are sorry only because they got caught! We all say terrible things in private but when they can go to the video/audio, that is it!

Oh you KNOW how Mel Gibson feels. My aren't you clever. You can judge who is truly sorry, and who isn't. You can see what is in anothers heart and soul.
My, I thought that was up to the Lord, God and Jesus to decide and judge. But, I am so glad that we now have YOU to judge us all.
Oh, and by the way, why don't you tell us what those terrible things are that YOU are saying in private?? Because you know whether you are saying them in private or public, they are still terrible, and you are going to be judged as such.

Boy, you Gibson defenders are way about there! Next you'll be saying that Holocaust denying racist Pat Buchanan doesn't really mean all those things he says and writes!

I notice that you can't reply to my comments. You say that I sound like Pat Buchanan.

Well, I say that you sound like Rob Reiner and his ilk. I hope that you are proud.

I know that there are many parts to Mr. Gibson, which is more than you know about him.
I also know that he produced, directed, and co-wrote one of the most beautiful movies on the Passion of Our Lord that has ever been created. For that I will always be grateful to him.
And as I have stated on this thread several times, I know people who know Mr. Gibson personally, not in a superficial way as you know him through the media, and YOU don't know anything about him.

Good statement brigada. And, I agree with you.
Some of the attitudes displayed here and elsewhere seem to deny that any apology was offered, much less the admitted state of mind -- impaired by alcohol -- that Gibson had that night/morning. He admitted his wrongs and is suffering the consequences. Also apparent is that many people evidently don't believe in "forgiveness" that Christ Himself demanded of his followers. We should recognize that a lot of his more "public critics" hated The Passion movie and attacked Gibson for that which was offered. Is it any wonder that many of those same folks were the ones who jumped on this bandwagon to attack him? Gibson deserves our prayerful support at this point.

Thank you very much for your support. I am not saying what Mr. Gibson did that night was not wrong, but as you said so eloquently, he has apologized twice, and he immediatley sought ought help. Those of us who claim to be Christians, should follow Jesus's lead, and pray for Mr. Gibson's recovery.
God bless you vox_freedom.

Thank you brigada.
I'm personally looking forward, with great anticipation, to Gibson's next film, Apocalypto.

Good grief, what nonsense! The man made a movie that you like so you think he walks on water and you idealize him?

What pray tell led yo to that conclusion?
Or, conversely, do you hate him because of his Passion movie?

I have disliked the man since I read about his upbringing and that was after the first Lethal Weapon movie - and about his family and their nutty dangerous beliefs. And the fact that he sourced some crazy nun who had a vision of Jews building a crucifix in the Temple which is absolutely forbidden by Jewish law. And his comment about his Anglican wife not getting into Heaven. Does that answer your question? And you think he walks on water! HE is also a terrible chauvinist.

Our Christian faith, according to the New Testiment, teaches that Jesus walked on water. Only a fool would think that Gibson is able to do so.
