Ask the average Joe where he thinks most of America's hate crimes occur, and he's apt to guess Mississippi, Alabama or another state stereotypically overrun with redneck lynch mobs. He would dismiss as preposterous the idea that such enlightened, diverse states such as New Jersey, Michigan, Minnesota and Connecticut are bastions of bigots.
He'd be whistling Dixie. According to the latest FBI statistics, crimes motivated by race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin or disability are 44 times more likely to occur in New Jersey than Mississippi. The states with the lowest rates were Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana and Wyoming, the last made infamous by the case of case of Matthew Shepard, the homosexual who was beaten to death in 1998. New Jersey, on the other hand, was No. 1 in bigotry, followed by Michigan, Montana and Minnesota and Arkansas.
Out of the 19 states and the District of Columbia that voted for John Kerry for president in 2004, 15 were among the top 25 in hate crimes. All six New England states landed in the top 25, with Massachusetts leading the way at No. 6; Connecticut was 21st with a rate 23 times higher than Alabama's and Mississippi's.
If there is a silver lining in these statistics, it's this: The FBI logged 7,649 hate crimes in 2004, which represent one-half of 1 percent of all violent crimes and a meaninglessly small percentage of all crimes that year. More than twice as many Americans were victims of homicides than bias crimes. Though the liberals and the mainstream news media want the public to believe hate crimes are epidemic in this country, the statistics refute that notion even as they reveal where America's real bigots live.
I will say this--NO other city or state is as addicted to &*#$ scratch tickets and the lottery as Boston.
You keep you crummy little paws off my book. You eeeevil, little traitor...
Really, what did I betray? My ancestors were loyal to the United States and fought under the Stars and Stripes.
So what's it cost to have a vanity press do your book? Did you buy the promotion package, too?

Well ma'am. They certainly are HAPPY running around looking at life through their plexiglas stomachs! They have their heads so far up and locked they wouldn't be able to admit any errors even if they were able to.
Yeah, they're just a bunch of Pagans...

Well now, that's just a sorry figure. I was certain it would be at the 3,000,000 mark. Sorry, I say...Just sorry...
BTW, Thanks for the info, SUCKER...
Sorry, the left are hateful. It always amazes me that the popular hip thing is that the right are hateful, when anyone who spends any time among those of the far left you feel you need a bath to wipe the dirt off.
Oh, you're most welcome. I actually do my research and present it, instead of just spouting lies like your line about the black cemetery in New York that somehow shows Lincoln in a bad light. I'm still waiting for you to offer something to support that one, given that the only black cemetery found in New York closed more than a decade before Lincoln was born
So you've sold, what, two copies? This graph only goes to the millionth ranking.
Vanity press. I just like the words. Vanity press.
AMEN!
There IS a very strong, and deeply entrenched, anti-South prejudice in this country. It DOES exist. We are still generalized and marginalized by our geographical location and history. It doesn't matter where in the South you're from, you're a bare-foot, mush-mouthed,uneducated buffoon if you're Southern. And you're expendable.
Very few will admit to thinking this way, of course; that would be too inelegant! The snide condescension always seeps out from behind the mannerly words and smiles.
It may not be that violent bigots are concentrated in the 'blue state', but merely that the PC thought-police are.
Good point. For a long time, Hawaii just didn't report "hate crimes." Alabama's been accused of underreporting such crimes, and that may go for Mississippi as well.
One important point is that during the period when reporting was required some states didn't include crimes relating to sexual orientation, and others did. That may still be the case. It's one reason why the states which do report such incidents as hate crimes have higher totals.
Something similar may be true of domestic violence or sexual assaults and stalking. Include such incidents as "hate crimes" and the total mounts.
And thereby Bozo you have just proven the point that there WAS no rebellion! How can a different Country rebel against a government of another country that isn't their government?! So as you can hopefully now see, Lincoln called it a "rebellion" to gain support among the masses of the Northern States to wage a war of suppression of the 9th and 10th Amendment rights of the seceded Southern States. He instigated the war to subjugate the South and put Yankee Congressmen in the majority. When it all came to pass, the Yankees could call any tune they desired whether the South liked it or not (now we're talking post 1865.)
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeeeeeeeeeeeeaah, you were talking about how magnanimous the North was in "freeing" the slaves. What a load of crap! So tell me why the North was sooooooooo hungry for Southern Cotton prior to 1861? And tobacco also! Both were slave grown crops I believe. Also why didn't the North feel the overriding need to employ former slaves during the Industrial Revolution of the late 19th century? Oh no! They employed emigrants to fill the ranks of the workers needed as I guess they figured the former slaves weren't high enough on the food chain to give those jobs to. So don't try to sell me this bunk about the "magnaminity of the Yankee". Your ancestors were nothing more than a horde of avarice driven lice who infested the Southern states under the auspices of war to line their own pockets. And like it or not, that's the facts Jack!

Because you were only a government in your own minds. It had no legal status, Complaining about your rights getting trampled when the law came down after you started shooting up the place makes you a hypocrite, and one more minority in America playing victim politics.

Rights they'd renounced.

Because of a booming population, I'd guess. All those immigrants who weren't going south.

What on earth are you talking about? The first wave of the Great Migration started in the 1890s, a single generation from agricultural slavery and Reconstruction. Were we supposed to ship them up on trains the day after Appomattox? Meanwhile the immigrants just kept on coming, getting off their boats at New York and Boston.
Your ancestors were nothing more than a horde of avarice driven lice who infested the Southern states under the auspices of war to line their own pockets.
There you go again, giving those terrific sound bites that makes any decent person think you're a raving nutbar.
Boston has been a dense city for a long, long time. Newer cities like Atlanta and Houston grew up surrounded by cheap land -- so commercial and residential development went up close together. There wasn't a lot of perceived need for zoning, and considerable resistance to it on property rights grounds. Plus, there's always some municipality in the area that's desperate enough for a tax base that they'll welcome anything that brings in money.

Some how I don't think that label will stick. It just doesn't roll off the tongue like "Civil War" or "War of Southern Rebellion", or even "War Between The States" does. Best try again.
