McCaskill Touts Willie Nelson Endorsement (Dem Senate candidate is on Willie's mind)

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -- Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill has been trying to connect with Missouri's country voters. Tuesday, she got the endorsement of a country music legend.

In town for an evening concert, Willie Nelson also was lending his support to McCaskill in her quest to unseat Republican Sen. Jim Talent in the Nov. 7 election.

"I have been all across this beautiful land and I have seen how the big corporations are squeezing out our family farms," Nelson said in a statement distributed by McCaskill's campaign. "I know she'll do what's right to protect this long-standing way of life."

McCaskill has been trying to tie Talent to corporate agriculture while portraying herself as the true friend of family farmers. The two candidates have engaged in a battle for agricultural endorsements -- with Talent touting the support of the Missouri Farm Bureau and various state commodity associations and McCaskill touting the support of the National Farmers Union.

Nelson co-founded the Farm Aid concert series two decades ago. The organization has since raised more than $29 million to help family farms, fight corporate agriculture and encourage people to buy locally grown food.

Nelson also has supported stem cell research efforts and renewable fuels, marketing a "Biowillie" fuel that contains a 20 percent biodiesel blend with 80 percent petroleum diesel.

"A few years ago, it wasn't that easy to find anyone who was into biodiesel ethanol, but Clair was," Nelson said. That, along with (being) against the war and (support for) stem cells, make her a very good candidate."

Talent also has touted his Senate efforts to boost the production of renewable fuels.

Talent spokesman Rich Chrismer declined to characterize the importance of Nelson's endorsement of McCaskill, but added: "Senator Talent's content to put his endorsements up against anyone's endorsements in this campaign."

Although he's only a minor league pothead, getting an "endorsement" from Willie Nelson is almost as good as getting an "endorsement" from major leaguer, Tommy Chong.

I would say Sen. Talent is probably happy Nelson didn't endorse him.

He wrote some great songs back then, including "Crazy" and "Hello Walls." But then again, he's done some great work since then, too. He's a very talented man, which is why it pains me to hear that he supports the libs.

Do you think Willie would still support her if she said she didn't want the support of any deadbeats who used scams to evade taxes, and paid only a portion of what they owed...and now used fundraising schemes in the name of farmers to enrich his lifestyle.

With her history, I guess she'll be bringing in Snoop Dog to "connect" with the gangsta' voters.

He pretty much comes from the left side all the time. Remember he was at the White House when JC was President and smoked some pot on the balconey or so it was said. He's endorsed Kinky another lefty for the Gov. of Texas this go around. I don't think that Willie's endorsement of a candidate is any plus at all, maybe more of a minus.

Willie inherited his politics from his grandparents -- who raised him. Consequently, he was a New Deal Democrat when he left Abbott High in 1950.

And he hasn't learned squat about politics since...

I have been all across this beautiful land and I have seen how the big corporations are squeezing...

Is he complaining about the price of little round pieces of plastic that are produced for about a penny or less?

Compare the production costs of a CD & the costs to put sound on it to the price of a barrel of oil turned into a gallon of gas. A $70 dollar barrel of oil has about a $1.50 per gallon cost that turns into about a $3.00 gallon of gas. That's a 100% mark-up between raw material to purchased consumer product.

"The Essential Willie Nelson" lists at $24.99. Wonder what that is "raw material to purchased consumer product?"

Is Willie complaining about the high price of plastic discs?

Willie Nelson is maybe the only lib whose music I can still listen to. I just love it. I don't take advice from him however.

What is the difference between Kentucky Fried Chicken and Willie's brain?

Willies brain is fried with 11 herbs and spices.
